Went canvassing in NH today |
|
Obama has amazing support in the neighborhoods I canvassed. Talked to two republicans who are supporting him and several independents. Only one was sketchy about his vagueness about how he will solve the health insurance issue, even tho she claimed to have gone to his website.
Anyway, of the several Hillary supporters I talked with, all are going to vote for Obama and happily.

When you go "canvassing", what exactly do you do? Go door to door and promote Obama? Do you need to be okayed by the local party headquarters? What do you say or ask? Just curious.

|
we need to follow specific guidelines. Basically we are contacting independents and asking them if they have made a decision about who they are supporting. I didn't encounter one McCain supporter among the independents. The dems were a little tougher because some of them were Hillary supporters, but they said they would vote for him.
We ask if they have any issues that are keeping them from voting for him and if they tell us we try to include information that they don't already have and direct them to Obama's website.
I really loved doing it today and will be canvassing for the next 8 weeks.

I'm always jealous of people who can deal with meeting voters - I'd die of stress.

take time. The interesting thing is here that in the past 2 years we're pretty close to ground zero on the foreclosure mess so the demographics have changed a lot, i think my guy Durston has a really good chance of winning and i'll be out walking for him again. I'm not giving up until Dan Lungren (r-douche) is gone.

One thing I do know is that we have some high school kids volunteering who tell us that there are at least a hundred 18 year old seniors who are voting for Obama who are not being polled. And these kids are so pumped on talking to other kids at school about voting. They are making voting attractive and are very up on the issues. These are the people we need to get to the polls on election day.

19. Hey, I may run into some real idiots the next time out. |
|
Some days are good, some are a disaster. Hell, we had republicans at our headquarters the other day deciding to support local democrats because of bad blood between other republicans. It was a freak show for the people in the office at the time.

25. Tell the vague one that Obama will not solve the health care issue |
|
She and her neighbors, and all the rest of us as well, will have to get organized to do that. It's the kind of change that comes from below. Point out that Obama has asked his supporteds to STAY ACTIVE after the election, and invite her to do that as well.
