not be talking about getting rid of all 527's. If he is, I'm going to have a serious problem with that.

I contributed to Move-on long before Kerry became the party's candidate. Move-on allows us to present ideas that may not be of interest to Kerry. We still have the right to have those issues aired.

Kerry "made a deal" and sold out our FUCKING RIGHTS to the Bush administration.
I'm so fucking pissed. Like NSMA said, we agree to stop telling the truth as long as they agree to stop telling lies.
On edit: But, you know, who really gives a shit about the 1st Amendment, anyway?

3. That would be crazy right now, just as a serious, excellent 527 ad blitz |
|
is just about to get underway, isn't it? If they did that right now, that would mean Bush would have gotten maximum benefit for his smear and remove most of the punch of the pro-Dem 527's. Maybe not quite political suicide, but quite dumb.

8. I agree with you on that point, |
|
but it's totally secondary.
Nobody here is talking about the fact that these two campaigns apparently think that it's up to THEM whether or not the American PEOPLE get a voice in the run up to the elections.
WTF? People are way too caught up in this drama.

Mentioned that MoveOn was a PAC and not a 527. I don't know enough about this...yet. For those as confused as me this may help. http://www.bushout.tv/archives/199.htmlEdit: added a link

There's a Moveon portion that is a 527 and a portion that's not. I don't remember the exact details, but Moveon is set up differently than some of these other groups.

Move On has a 527 AND a Pac. It's all about diversification of pots of money. In any event, 527s are not going anywhere.

5. Of course he does. MoveOn is airing a set of ads |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 12:52 PM by The_Casual_Observer
During the gop convention (according to an article in the New Yorker this week). These ads show average republicans who aren't going to vote for bush giving testimony. I believe that they are afraid that these ads will be effective.

10. The ad was not a 527 ad. |
|
And a 527 would be free to run its own comparable add. This is not a first amendment affront as some apparently think. Plenty of 527 ads to come.

14. Here is some clarification BGL. |
|
...McCain said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I want to emphasize if I could that we're not saying that 527s should be abolished. We're just saying they should live under the same campaign finance restrictions (as hard money groups) because they are engaged in partisan activity.http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=4&u=/ap/20040826/ap_on_el_pr/bush_swift_boat_ads_5

18. But can 527's be gotten rid of without an act of Congress, since they were |
|
brought into being by an act of Congress? Whether or not Bush and/or Kerry condemn 527's should not affect the ability of 527's to continue to produce and air ads at all.
Remember, 527's are SUPPOSED to have NO coordination with the candidates teams whatsoever.
The 527's are SUPPOSED to be INDEPENDENT from any candidate.
Therefore, Bush's condemnation or lack of the same toward the Swiftboat Veterans ads speaks to his personal and political dis/honesty.
Bush's condemnation would not be enough to legally stop the Swiftboat Vets ads anymore than Kerry's condemnation would of a MoveOn ad.
The deliberate linking of the bogus Swiftboat ads to ALL 527's is simply a ploy to discredit all 527's and that in itself raises several disturbing questions.

28. Why don't they encourage or limit 527's to ... |
|
POSITIVELY campaigning for their candidate, instead of launching anti-opponent ads ? I'm guessing that's what their original intention was, waaay back in ancient history, anyway.
That would limit any effect the GOP 527's could have, for sure.
Uh, what's Bush got to run on again ? NOTHING
