3. Is there a way to ask Yahoo not to carry AP as news?
The AP stories come up on my Yahoo screen. Since the head of AP wants a Repub in office so he can own more media in one market than is currently allowed, AP is not a real news organization. It is an advocacy group for the Repubs.

4. I don't know about the main page
But I know that on the news page, you can select stories from different news carriers. Maybe there's a way to get Yahoo to change it..

5. Reuters isn't perfect but is a little better
Wish they would be carried by default.

BTW, recommended!

6. I did as instructed.....
and did write to Fournier at: rfournier@ap.org
and cc his boss at: mOreskes@ap.org

Dear Mr. Fournier,

I have noticed that since you were elevated to the position of Bureau Chief, the stories from the Associated Press, read more like a Pravda arm of the Republican party. Gone is the objectivity and the search for the truth that helped the Associated Press build a reputation over years of hard work from competent journalism.

It is clearly unfortunate that I will have stop reading Associated Press stories, wherever they might be printed. I will be writing to my local paper protesting the use of your companies' wire service and demanding that they locate an alternative wire source. I will do this under the threat of cancelling my subcriptions. This is a threat that I am willing to carry out.

I may be only one voice, but if there are enough voices against the sort of blatant partisan slant never seen before in a wire service, it may just very well have an impact. I can only hope that it will cause enough of a stir and give "food for thought" to the very organization that hired you to help them be better. At some point, I can only hope that they realize that you have harmed them beyond recognition.

Respectfully,

9. My email to Mr. Oreskes and copied to Fournier
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 02:08 PM by kaygore
Dear Mr. Oreskes:

I find Mr. Fournier's lack of impartiality more in keeping with the shoddy "journalism" that we have come to expect from the likes of Faux (Fox) News, an organization that gets the most credit for lowering not only the political discourse in this country but for being an obvious propaganda arm for the failed Bush administration.

That AP would harbor and abet an employee, such as Mr. Fournier, shames not only you as his superior but your entire organization.

Mr. Fournier, I assume, is not paid to be a columnist (at least that is not how his position on the AP staff is billed) or a shock jock, such as Rush is. However, his biased reporting of the presidential primaries and most recently of not only the election but Senator Obama's choice of Senator Biden as vice-president, are no more than Fox News-like pandering and pouting than real journalistic efforts.

If Mr. Fournier is really doing his the job for which he is paid, why has he not written about the numerous current problems and past transgressions of Mr. McCain (and the answer is NOT, "Oh, because that is old news.")

Mr. Fournier needs to pretty-boy himself up and scuttle on off to the dark recesses of Faux News where the likes of his "journalistic" are not only expected but welcomed by their viewers. Your firing him would go a long way to helping him find his rightful place in the media business (it's not really journalism that Mr. Fournier writes, now is it???!!!)

Thank you for your kind attention to my passionate and reasoned request for helping return our country to real journalism again by firing Mr. Fournier.

Warm regards,
Kay Gore

10. Excellent!
That is what we must do........express ourselves and let them know we see them for what they are. Ignoring them runs a mighty big risk!

Thanks! :)

11. K+R my email...Ron
Ron,

I have been an avid reader of Associated Press stories in general for many years...they have graced my local paper and also the big boys too, (WaPo, NYtimes etc) and i have felt like i could always trust AP to deliver unbiased news, but this last article written by you Ron, unfairly attacks Barack Obama and Joe Biden, it was so transparently partisan that i felt i had to stand up and say something...and CC your boss in on it so they can see what you have reduced AP too...in my opinion, and many others AP has become a tool of the Republican Party as their newest propaganda mouthpiece.

At least FOX news straight up admits to to being partisan...Ron, you should be ashamed of yourself for putting AP in this situation, you were given a large responsibility for which you have failed us, and now there should be an accountability moment...I hope your superiors will act if you do not have the courage to resign.

one disappointed former reader of yours and AP
