The poll just reported on CNN is bullshit.
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 08:03 PM by jefferson_dem
The head-to-head was 47-47.

Key qualifier: this was a flash poll done on a Saturday night when McLame tends to poll better for the obvious reason that older folks and family folks are more likely to be home. I didn't see how many respondents were included in the sample but I think I just noted a +/- of 8% points.

I wish I could say it's unbelievable they would even report such trash...but it's not.

EDIT: +/-3.5. My bad. Link here --- http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/08/24/cnn-poll-post-biden-poll-shows-dead-heat/

20. CNN was bad during the '04 election,
but since '06 it's almost indistinguishable from faux. I can't stand to watch the little repub whores spew their right wing shit & then read "The Most Trusted Name in News" when they break for commercial. :puke:

Blitzer is a fucking embarrassment. He couldn't go off script if his life depended on it. He can barely multi-task enough to deal with the multiple headlines they display. No wonder he relates to McCain. He probably can't send email either! It speaks volumes that the corporate masters let him host their flagship show.

13. A "flash poll" taken after Biden was selected.
The good news, if we were to trust the results, is that the Biden choice polled very high, even among Hillary supporters.

16. Aye. I watched for 2 minutes and had to turn it off......
Donna Brazile was asked why are the numbers growing of these anti-Obama Hillary voters. She should have said, "cause the media keeps talking about it, like we are doing now". Instead, she answered with some nonsense about Obama not addressing issues like health care, etc....that are important to them. :eyes:

Poor Donna. Guess I have to write to her about that one! dbrazile@earthlink.net

12. For whatever it's worth....
pollsters don't just go with whatever demographic they happen to reach. I'm sure the poll was weighted for age, gender, party affiliation, etc. This doesn't mean polling isn't subject to factors that impact the outcome, just that you should regard most polls for what they are...a snapshot in time.

17. Are we sure they used weights?
I can guarantee they just kept dumping new numbers in until they got a "satisfactory" number of respondents. No call backs. Again, with a MoR of +/-8...wtf!

27. My point is the average person does not understand....
polling methodology. I don't know where you got the MoR (I assume you actually meant MoE) of +/- 8. According to CNN:

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted on Saturday and Sunday, with 1,023 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey’s sampling error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points for all voters. For registered Democrats, it is plus or minus 4.5 percentage points, and for Democrats who still support Clinton for the party's nomination, it is plus or minus 7.5 percentage points.

19. weights can be very bad things
party id, for example, is highly fluid. Reweighting the data to fixed proportions of party id can really push the numbers around.

25. The channels should be FORCED to clarify what is news reporting and what is opinon/commentary
It would make all the difference in the world and still allow "free speech".

35. The doctrine didn't enforce equal time. And no, many Americans do not realize the difference.
To me, that's the biggest flaw.

When Lou Dobbs reports news and then says the media is in the tank for Obama - most unsophisticated people accept it all as news.

These channels should be forced to label what's news and what's opinion.

PS - I'm not opposed to the Fairness Doctrine. I do think people overestimate what the original did.

40. Jesus Christ, Bambino....
what "networks" am I "supporting"? I am pointing out some of the practical barriers to ensuring "fairness". Wouldn't it be great for us if it was enforced by an FCC with a Democratic majority of commissioners? What if it's the other way around?

I honestly have to say that I am concerned about your thinking processes. Too much either/or thinking for my taste.

however, you also know that the media is controlled. Being fair and balanced is different to be controlled eith by left or right.

For instance what coverage do minority parties get in this country?

33. Here's the hidden advantage to the slanted coverage.
I don't know, I haven't thought it all the way through but:

This kind of coverage can only make the Right more complacent. Thus, lower GOTV efforts and lower turnout.

Makes the left more nervous and energized, Thus increases efforts and turnout.

So, am I crazy, or is this working to our advantage in the end?
