My Dad's letter to the Editors about Ron Fournier's bias
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 07:27 PM by Quixote1818
I think we all need to do this! Time to put the pressure on!

Dear Editors,
This letter is to request that the editors of the Las Cruces Sun-News stand up for us local readers.

As a reader of the Las Cruces Sun-News, my trust in political stories written by the Associated Press is about to be gone because of the AP's new Washington D.C. Bureau Chief, Ron Fournier. He consistently writes articles smearing Democrats and favoring John McCain.

The latest was Fournier's article on Saturday, August 23: "Biden pick shows lack of confidence." It was full of Republican talking points presented as fact, and was a far cry from unbiased journalism.

Another Fournier story began, "Poor Hillary. After trying to save her sinking candidacy with awkward turns of flattery and sarcasm, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton resorted to a new tactic in Tuesday night's debate: self-pity."

Fournier is obviously a McCain supporter. It was recently confirmed that he talked to the McCain campaign about being a senior political adviser in 2007. And, an email was recently uncovered sent by Fournier to Karl Rove telling him, "Keep up the fight."

If anything, Fournier has a special obligation to show the public his support for McCain won't bias his journalism.

But a recent study found that Fournier didn't write a single negative story against Republicans during their primary--except one belittling Mitt Romney for beating John McCain in Michigan.
I am asking you to contact the national AP immediately. Let them know that local readers are losing faith in the 160-year-old AP because of its recent bias, and that Ron Fournier's articles smearing Democrats and favoring McCain have got to stop.

Sincerely,
Name Removed

3. Your welcome. He sends me letters to the editor all the time
but I felt this one needed to be posted to get others to write. These are the kinds of issues we can often have the biggest impact on here at DU.

6. I wrote to them to!
I CCed Fournier's boss. But I think I will write one to my local papers as well.

I sent mine to, rfournier@ap.org

Cc: mOreskes@ap.org

Dear Mr. Fournier,

I have noticed that since you were elevated to the position of Bureau Chief, the stories from the Associated Press, read more like a Pravda arm of the Republican party. Gone is the objectivity and the search for the truth that helped the Associated Press build a reputation over years of hard work from competent journalism.

It is clearly unfortunate that I will have stop reading Associated Press stories, wherever they might be printed. I will be writing to my local paper protesting the use of your companies' wire service and demanding that they locate an alternative wire source. I will do this under the threat of cancelling my subcriptions. This is a threat that I am very much willing to carry out.

I may be only one voice, but if there are enough voices against the sort of blatant partisan slant never seen before in a wire service, it may just very well have an impact. I can only hope that it will cause enough of a stir and give "food for thought" to the very organization that hired you to help them be better. At some point, I can only hope that they realize that you have harmed them beyond recognition.

Respectfully,
