The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows Barack Obama attracting 46% of the vote while John McCain earns 42%. When "leaners" are included, it’s Obama 48% and McCain 45% (see recent daily results). Tracking Polls are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day. Sign up for free daily e-mail update.
McCain is viewed favorably by 56% of the nation’s voters, Obama by 55% (see trends). Biden is now viewed favorably by 48% of voters, up a few points since being selected as Obama’s running mate. Sixty-one percent (61%) of voters see Obama as politically liberal while 68% see McCain as conservative. Biden, less well known, is seen as liberal by 43%.

Today’s Presidential Tracking Poll results are the best for Obama in nearly a month. Four years ago, John Kerry received his “convention bounce” before the convention but after naming John Edwards as his Vice Presidential candidate. He reached his high-water mark with a five-point lead over George W. Bush on July 22 and 23, just before the convention began on July 25. Comparisons to four years ago are not necessarily predictive of Election 2008 due to differences in timing of the conventions and other factors.
