I need some DU advice and expertise on this.
I mentioned in another post that my political action group wants to take the McCain/Bush embrace picture, get it blown up (6 feet by 4 feet?) and make signs of it. I took an internet picture of "The Embrace" to my printer today and they said that internet resolution is no good. They need a picture that is "300 DPI" (dots per inch). They also questioned whether we could legally use the picture.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to get this done would be greatly appreciated!!!

1. You know who could help with this?
DS1. Seriously. Don't tell him I said this, but the man is a genius with this kind of thing.

7. Photographers have rights, too. It's not just the subjects of the picture.
So, not sure if it's so safe to use the embrace shot...

3. You would have had to take the pic at a higher resolution
from the get go. Blowing one up will not work if the resolution is small to start with. You also need permission from the photographer to use the photo.

4. The original image is probably just fine...

...you just can't print large images from web photos, which are usually at 65-72dpi.

Legal rights to use the image may be another matter...

6. The best print I can get on any art work I render at 72 dpi
is about an 8 x 10 without losing clarity.

5. I would honestly consult with an
attorney on the issue of "fair use." Perhaps some of the legal eagles here will be of help?
