Poll question: How will you be affected if * is re-Selected and institutes the draft?
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 04:50 PM by saywhat
Hopefully, we'll never have to face such a catastrophe, but if the worst of all possible scenarios occurs, and he steals another 4 how will your life change? Specifically, I'd like to see whether the draft would affect you directly, or involve a child or grandchild. Since love knows no genetic boundaries, I've included step-children/grandchildren in the survey. Please post personal anecdotes.

1. I have a number of kids/stepkids that could be affected
which means, Canada, here we come! None of my kids will die for any Neo-con wet dream!

2. Well, I voted for "child" because

my nephews couldn't be anymore beloved by me if they WERE mine. They are 15 and 12.

I dread to think that we will be in Iraq as long as we were in Vietnam.

I'll be glad
I was a C.O. at the end of the Vietnam War & I'll be reluctantly glad that this current generation will have to become even more involved in stopping the insanity that leads to a draft.
The draft is a symptom, not a cause.

14. I won't be glad, but
I know how you feel. During the run-up to the war I'd go to demonstrations and it seemed like everybody there was a pissed off baby boomer like me. I kept wondering where all the draft age people were.

9. My husband could be reinstated into the military...
and only 3 years later my son would be eligible.

I'm moving to Canada! I refuse to have my son fight in an unjust war.

10. as a non US citizen in the US - I could be drafted
seriously - the INS signed the draft for me a few years back - apparently the age limit isnt so tight for non citizens and I could still be drafted under the special skills section. I never signed the draft but the US may draft me at age 29.

16. What's the maximum age for the draft?
It's 25, isn't it? I'm 25 now, but will be 26 in April. I'm also in poor physical shape.

My brother, on the other hand, turned 22 last month. I'm scared for him. :(

19. I think it's 26, which is what I'll be next May and I have a 20 yo brother
I'm kind of in the same boat. If those new rumored regulations (a draft that would include women and men up to 34, I believe) then all three of my parents' children would be eligible for draft.

And will tell them so if they decided they wanted to draft me lol

I will also be in college (though I know the new rules don't allow you to be exempted for being a college student.

NOT. Regarding sexual orientation, you may have the only loophole the nutcases will allow.
