46. Interestingly enough, via Comcast cable broadband, that site won't load.
It worked earlier, but it's totally dead now for us via Comcast. How curious!

Luckily, though, we also have a DSL network connection (was
Verizon, now Fairpoint) and that's working well enough.

2. Fuck them ... You'd think the party of inclusion wouldn't use a server that excludes 1% of their
party. I'm not making the budgeted $500 donation on Thurs ... Fuck 'em

Using Microsofts shitty corporate server blocks Linux. This is a monopolistic practice to make people buy thier shitty virus enabled operating systems.

They can wait till 2012 to get the next donation from me.

16. You are changing the subject now! Enjoy the HD stream, I say.
You made your own choice. You decided which OS to use. Now live with the consequences, and enjoy that tiny picture in C-SPAN.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the FREE downloads that enabled my High Definition LiveStream.

And I'm considering creating HD content to monetize.

53. This has to be a joke.
Because if it's not, you need to get a grip. You chose to use Linux knowing full well that it wasn't compatible with many things. Don't blame the DNC for that. Also, if you're swift enough to run a linux desktop, you should be able to install a Windows VM.

15. I'll never understand
why Linux users, who know that by making the decision to exclusively use Linux as their OS, knowing FULL WELL that decision means there is some software they will not be able to run on their precious Linux boxes, will then insist on whining about applications they can't run on their precious Linux boxes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of using Linux when and where it is appropriate, but... you KNOW when you choose it, you will be excluded.

Just sayin.

I :loveya: Linux... but I also :loveya: this HD streaming convention coverage (which I'm watching at work on my Windows PC).

Television is the "mass media" delivery method. This streaming HD over the intertubes is icing on the cake.

55. If you *REALLY* want to see something...
...and you have a computer or laptop with a DVI output and
a TV with an HDMI input, hook your computer to the TV with
a DVI-to-HDMI cable and watch at (oh, say) 1080i! Now
*THAT* was sweet!

Using "Picture and Picture", we were watching the Democratic
feed side-by-side with the PBS program and PBS probably
spent 60% of the time with the talking assholes "explaining"
to us rubes what we had just seen. The only disadvantage of
the Democrats' streaming feed was that it was running two
or three minutes behind the "live" PBS feed.

56. There's something broken in one of their bits of Javascript.
Both of our Macs have the Silverlight and MoveNetworks plug-ins installed
and both are running Safari 3.1.2, but one Mac is a PowerPC running 10.4.11
and the other is an Intel running whatever the latest 10.5 is. The older Mac
gets bounced by one of the Javascript "checkers" while the newer Mac works.

It's a bug in the DNC's Javascript code. :(

58. I don't think that it's a bug in their checker code....
if I understand correctly, the newest versions of Silverlight will not run on a PowerPC Mac, and a lot of the streaming stuff that's been set up recently requires the newest versions, so anyone with an older Mac is totally screwed. I was locked out of the NBC Olympics streams by the same crap... running a PowerMac G5 with Dual 2.7GHz processors!

That's the danger in trying to use something like this, instead of Flash, Quicktime, or another technology that DOES run on all systems.

Silverlight? Hard to say, but the version that downloaded installed fine.
If you have a good test site to prove or disprove its functionality, I'll
give it a try.

60. From the Microsoft Silverlight site:
http://www.microsoft.com/Silverlight/resources/install.aspx#sysreq

PowerPC is only supported for Silverlight 1.x; 2.0 will not run properly on the PowerPC.

NBC Olympics required Silverlight 2.0, so all non-Intel Macs were locked out. I am guessing that the DNC version checker is detecting that you can't run 2.0, but their error message doesn't tell you that you can't run it on a PowerPC-based system.

You can also go to the Apple web site, select "Support" and then "Discussions" and search for 'Silverlight' to see all of the problems that people have been having.
