13. i hear ya but i have been saying that if someone is at least going to
be rational even half the time is more than i can say for cnn. and for me, i think its important to start somewhere and just keep fighting the good fight. because i know that one way or the other we all DU make a difference

now that his ratings up, i think its a good incentive... whaddya think?

11. i just sent another email of thanks... his ratings are up and i for one
and am going to keep emailing him to encourage his reporting of
"the verifiable truth"

i was always encouraging him to just seek the truth but after this smearboat mess, now i want to make sure to emphasize the verifiable part!

10. Arrow
Yes, Tweety's momentarily all right on this one specific thing, but look at BUCHANAN, who was good about Iraq, about the NeoCons, about the Shrubbites wrecking his (Buchanan's) pure ideology-------- Just when he had gained a TINY bit of mitigation, NOW he has been RABID in supporting the swiftbots. Tweety will be that way on other issues. In fact, just on today's circus he said the KERRY campaign had "turned into an inquest" or some other funereal image.

15. Totally Agree!
Matthews is what a journalist is supposed to be. He is ACTUALLY fair and balanced. I have heard him called "liberal" by the right and "conservative" by the left. A true mark of an independent!

16. Take him one day at a time
Tonight was a winner. Pete McCloskey was good.

Buchanan acted like an a**hole. Even Fineman was laughing at him. They just can't believe (or don't want to believe) that these bitter old men (the Swift Smear guys) just might be lying.

20. I have a theory about this. I've posted it before.
Matthews was taken aback about two months ago when a guest on his program talked about the outrageous Iraq War coverage that the media produced, day in and day out for so very many months.

Matthews, half-jokingly, said something like "...all except for me..."

The guest leveled with him and told him that no, he was mistaken, that he, Matthews, had been entirely complicit in the irresponsible coverage of the Iraq War--the absence of real journalism, the lack of any real questions, the knee-jerk patriotism just after the war in Afghanistan, etc.

You should have seen Tweety's face. The guest might as well have hit him in the head with a board. He was truly at a loss for words for a second or two--you must admit, that is very unusual for the Tweetster. He asked the guest again, just to make sure--and the guest replied again, yes, Tweety had been complicit.

Ever since then, Matthews has been a little more serious. I don't think I'm imagining this, and I don't think it was a ploy.

25. to be fair, the leading up to the war tweety was the only one
that continually questioned it. he did not buy into it. he was the only one that continually called people on it. i think it was the point powell talked at u.n. that he started drifting off that. but he has always been wary of pre emptive strike. consistantly. now.........he hasnt gather info the way i would like and he is totally anti clinton, ergo gore and has yet to say many nice things about kerry (unlike no nice things from all others), and gushes on the macho bush.

27. I'm not a cable junkie by any means, but I noticed that.
And when I think about the Tweetster's years as a talking head (and what he has said about his involvement in politics before that), it makes a great difference.

The media are motivated by money, but when you get to the level of a Matthews, there is some leeway. He went with it--or at least that is what I'm hoping.

29. Wow! That's interesting.
I didn't see it. I remember before the war it was obvious that he wasn't a supporter, but he didn't have the guts to challenge the case for the war.

Has he finally realized that having an hour of prime time TV on a cable news show comes with a RESPONIBILITY to the viewers, and it shouldn't be just a food fight? I was amazed a while back when he talked about campaign 2000 getting sidetracked by personality crap, and that he was as guilty of it as anyone.

The problem I still have with him is that he is often woefully unprepared. He doesn't seem to be fully informed on any issues, he has his one or two points and just keeps going back to them. If a guest brings up something he isn't prepped for he's helpless. The guest can just lie in his face with impunity.

It was funny to see him handle Buchanan. Pat was so ridiculous trying to wade through all the evidence against the Swift Liars. It was like watching a salmon try to make it upstream. Pat can sound so sure of himself that he can just bull his way through with sympathetic hosts, like Scarborough. But the act was completely ruined because Matthews was laughing at him.

Please Chris, find some better "all-stars" for the panel discussions.

Must mean he's doing something right. If you dare, venture on over to freep territory. No way I'm going over there, but if you so desire...
