Did anyone else get the feeling tonite, while watching Michelle, |
|
that we were looking at the next Jackie O?
Except Michelle is more than that. She's Jackie O with street smarts.
Michelle was total class tonite.

...then there's razor-sharp intellect on top of that.

With a searing intelligence to match. After eight years of pickles, we need a Michelle Obama.

15. Thank you, but I have to add that Jackie's marriage was not like Michelle's. |
|
The Obamas have one of those special marriages, but Jack and Jackie did not.
Maybe if Jackie were blessed with one of thise special marriages, she would have been a lot like Michelle. Because she was certainly intelligent and gifted.

21. Of course she could have. Remember those teevee interviews she did |
|
to explain how she refurbished the White House with an eye to setting off different historical periods? That wasn't fake. She did that.

32. I agree. I don't think it's so much a matter of ability or a lack |
|
of that in Jaqueline Kennedy. But she would never have been encouraged to do that. Her job was pretty circumscribed back then.
Michelle will be encouraged to be all of what she is - and that's a very, very good thing!

I'm so glad to see it ALL in context with the replay. (Monday TeeVee agenda prioritizes "Saving Grace" & "Weeds.") I heard some portions live on the Mike Malloy Show. And then there have been the MSNBC recaps/highlights since I returned to the network coverage.
Spot on. It's why I love my country, too.
Love the Biden cutaways, too. Great choice.
UPDATE Michelle Bernard is freaking me out. She has never drooled any honey for BO like this.

But after watching that speech I realized how awesome she is. Then I got really mad at Larry Johnson and Hannity for attacking such an awesome women. Fuck them. Michelle Obama is fucking great and will be one of the best first ladies ever.

35. Perhaps we should let Michelle Obama become first lady |
|
and get some time and experience under her belt before comparing her to a feminist icon like Eleanor Roosevelt. Eleanor was a power unto herself at a time when female voices were far and few between in political circles, she was routinely mocked for being "manly" for venturing beyond choosing the dinnerware in the White House. I like Michelle Obama, she'll be a great role model for young women, but comparing her to Roosevelt at this time is pure hyperbole.

|
I am so glad that I watched her last night and I wish these hard nosed Hillary supporters could see what I saw last night. I just don't get the "I wanted Hillary and I'm voting for McCain". What the hell is up with that? After all the struggles we women have made over the years they are being way too "girly" for me.

She has the poise and the grace and the style. I think there's a substance showing that Jackie wasn't really allowed to show back then. I think we'll see much more of the woman in her own right, not just the "Mrs.".
I think she's an amazing woman, and will be an absolutely huge advantage in the WH.

36. In addition to her speech, Caroline Kennedy's role reinforces the whole thing- |
|
I realize that for many reasons, this speech was important in the way it was written, but Michelle delivered it, and I think many others might agree with me that we are so much more open to this becoming our first family.
In retrospect, Jackie Kennedy made decisions on the way to becoming Jackie O on how she would rear her children, so I paid particular attention to Michelle's children re: their presence on stage. Wonderful.
Maybe this nostalgia was raised further in seeing Caroline Kennedy's role in this campaign. When she spoke last night, I found myself really wanting to stay up for Michelle's speech. We need this woman, because she picks the baton up and is ready to carry it when we need it the most.
I'm awaiting for the polls to change, or not believe them at all!

37. Michelle took the prize last night |
|
She was brilliant in content and in delivery. Her energy was strong and direct and she actually inspired me. I loved Jackie, but she could never have done what Michelle did last night! Until last night I doubt Michelle knew she could do that! She was great. Just great. She was conversational to an enormous audience and that is not easily done. She made it look easy. I was very impressed with Michelle, as I always am.
