McCainiacs party with the PUMAs
DENVER -- One of the weirder soirees in the offing last night would have to be the Republican National Committee's cocktail party for Hillary Clinton supporters.

While Michelle Obama (re-)introduced herself to America and Ted Kennedy electrified the Pepsi Center, a mile or so away at the Paramount Cafe, a loud rock-and-roll bar in a rehabbed 1920s movie theater, college Republicans talked over chips and beer with the disaffected Democrats who call themselves PUMAs (for either Party Unity My A-- or People United Means Action.)

This was the latest attempt by the GOP to call attention to, and if possible exacerbate, the divisions within the Democratic Party; earlier yesterday, John McCain's campaign released a TV ad featuring a former Clinton delegate talking about how she'd decided to vote Republican, "a first for me."

Over the deafening music and chatter in the packed bar, the clusters of clean-cut college kids, exhausted from a long day door-knocking and sign waving, did not, in truth, do much mixing with the PUMA crowd, many of whom were old enough to be the young conservatives' mothers.

But a few did. As big TV across the room showed Michelle Obama speaking on the convention floor, two young women and a young man from the College Republicans stood next to a couple of middle-aged women from Wichita. The Democrats were doing most of the talking.

I fucking hate the MSM - they act as if there are THOUSANDS of Clinton supporters who refuse to back Obama. What. The. Fuck.

Because when you want to persuade disaffected Clinton supporters, the people you want to send to do the job are zit-faced College Republican losers.

6. All 60 of them? That's how many turned out for their convention.
It would be interesting to cross reference their attendance list with Hillary donors and McCain donors. I bet they are 3 to 1 McCain and non Hillary donors.

14. I actually think a significant portion of PUMAS are actually real Hillary supporters.
They have been prayed on and their weak minds have been exploited to the GOPs advantage. These people aren't typical Hillary supporters. These PUMAs are just the ones who are easily influenced and irrational.

17. I don't agree, Hillary supporters would be AND ARE supporting her as opposed to embarrassing her...
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 11:51 AM by Spazito
these poseurs are merely Operation Chaos idiots who think that adopting the puma crap hides who they really are, they are pathetic in their "subtlety", imo.

One has only to look at how people who supported other candidates in the primary handled their disappointment, they accepted it and got on board the train. Hillary supporters did the same, it is only the poseurs who continue to try and diminish Obama and, imo, hurt Hillary at the same time.

It is a two-fer attempt by them, imo. A pathetic attempt to hurt both the Democratic nominee and hurt the Clintons who they have had a hate on for a very long time. They will fail on both counts.

9. Another article and my response to it:

California Hillary Delegates Protesting

Hillary Clinton may not have that much control over her own delegates, who are still whipped up into a frenzy over what they view as slights from the Obama campaign.

Clinton delegate and Los Angeles women's lawyer Gloria Allred grabbed a napkin from the tables at the California delegation breakfast this morning and wore it as a gag to protest not being allowed to speak at the breakfast.

"I was not elected to be a potted plant," Allred said through her gag, holding up DNC rules that say delegates must vote as they are elected. Californnia has 204 delegates pledged to Hillary Clinton, versus 166 for Obama.

Clinton delegate Julie Wong of Los Gatos was handing out white wrist bands to rally solidarity at the convention tonight when Clinton speaks. Hillary supporters have a march planned for today, which coincides with the anniversary of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote.

Allred said Clinton herself "doesn't have the legal power" to tell her own delegates how to vote. "She can do it, but that doesn't mean we have to do it," Allred said.

My comment:

"Why are a few idiots news? I keep hearing about the dissent of the Clinton supporters but when I read the articles, it's only a handful of egomaniacs who can't see past their own noses. Why is this news?"

11. I can't believe these women would totally demean themselves by going
and taking part of something like that. You just know those spoiled, rightwing brats were thinking in their minds that these women were just pathetic and bitter. These same pigs think these women don't have a right to health care or protection under the law for equal pay. Sigh. Of course these women were doing all of the talking. They actually believe these people give a shit about them. So sad.

16. Useful Idiots, the lot of them.
I'm not sure if they are willfully ignoring or are oblivious to the fact that all of their new "friends" (Faux, Karl Rove, Limbaugh, Hannity, et al) would be savaging and eviscerating Clinton had she won the nomination. It makes me sad that adults could be so gullible.
