WOW check out this last request in an obituary
Phyllis Harris
Phyllis Harris, 65, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away August 16, 2008, following a brief illness. The rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at St. Elizabeth Church, 75th and Main Street, Kansas City, followed by visitation until 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. Elizabeth Church. Private interment will be held. Phyllis was born Aug. 21, 1942, in Junction City, Kan., to George P. and Opal E. Rion. A self-initiated search for faith brought her to the Catholic Church as she began college. It was during this same period of time that she met her one true love on a blind date, John Harris. She later graduated from K-State University and received her Physical Therapy certificate from the University of Kansas Medical Center. She was a lifelong lover of words and music, and was never restricted by boundaries of genre. Phyllis went on to work as a physical therapist at Research Hospital. She was deeply concerned with issues of social inequality and justice, and could not resist the urge to create beautiful things. Following her retirement Phyllis went back to work for St. Elizabeth Church assisting with social services. She was limitlessly generous, loving and loyal. Phyllis's wonderful sense of humor was corrupted by her irreverent daughters and sons-in-law but perhaps her greatest delight was being "Mom-Mom" to her four grandchildren. Phyllis leaves behind her husband of 44 years, John Harris of the home; daughters, Anne Harris and husband Darren Fox, Amy Galey and husband Mark, and Jenny Weidler and husband Peter; grandchildren, Sean, Moira, Adelaine and Wolfgang; a brother, George Rion; and a sister, Elizabeth Vaughn. While Phyllis adored her garden, we are certain that she would prefer, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114, St. Vincent DePaul Society, 2 East 75th Street, Kansas City, MO 64114 or Catholic Charities of Kansas City & St. Joseph, 301 E. Armour Blvd., Suite 620, Kansas City, MO 64111 and that you cast your vote for Obama. Arrangements: Muehlebach Funeral Home (816) 444-2060 www.muehlebachchapel.com

13. I remember one from 2004 where a guy had died suddenly
I think in a car accident? It was only a few days after the election. In his obit his family said he had been proud to cast his vote for John Kerry. It was really touching.

11. God bless her! Her last widh was for my son's future!
My dad did much the same when he died in 2003--at his service at the Veteran's Cemetary my mom said that the best way one could honor my father was to vote for the Democratic every chance you got.

Not joking! He knew he was dying (prostate cancer) and he told her to please say it!

12. Phyllis, I wish that I was a Repub just so I could cast my vote for Obama and make your wish come
true but I can't. I'm already a Democrat. :( I will endeavor to fulfill your wish by recruiting more people into the Obama fold though. I can be pretty persuasive-- helped recruit lots of people into my college Go Club. ;)

17. Sounds good
Although from the sounds of things, the world would be better served were she still able to cast that vote herself.

18. Mitch Van Yahres (1926-2008)
link

Mitchell Van Yahres, a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, who died Friday, February 8, 2008, in Charlottesville, aged 81, tended trees for a living and people for a lifetime. <...>

His friends, who nearly included everyone who met him, are asked, in lieu of expenditures on flowers and the like, to make a healthy and significant contribution to the presidential campaign of Barack Obama or, if they insist, the charity of their choice.
