A "registered Muslim?" Where, pray tell, are Muslims supposed to register, anyway? |
|
Well, except the unfortunate men who had to register with our Nazi overlords after 9/11. A registered Muslim? I am Muslim, and I'm not registered anywhere, except that I have a driver's license and am a registered voter!
Some people are just insane.

I'll have to ask all of our friends with young children (and we have many) |
|
"Say, are Z*** and F*** and H**** and M**** and A**** registered Muslims? If not, why not?"

2. You know what the perfect comeback is for that? Are YOU a registered Christian? |
|
If there's a register for Muslims, then there's one for Christians. And chances are, the person stupid enough to say something like that is a fundie.

6. If you refer to the school in Indonesia... |
|
I believe Obama's father indicated "muslim" on the child's school registration, but I don't have any way of knowing, as if it even mattered.
This is one of those terrible things out on the internet, not much fun to read here, to be honest.

10. To all non-simpletons, this is NO BIG DEAL. |

When he registered for elementary school in Indonesia, he had to designate a religion on his entry form. This was back in the '60s, remember, when Indonesia was in turmoil and, since his stepfather -- and a majority of Indonesians -- were Muslim, it was probably the SAFEST THING to put that down as his religion, even if his family weren't PRACTICING Muslims.
Of course, all this "nuance" is lost on stupid redneck Americans who've always had the FREEDOM to check whatever box they wanted and shoot their mouths off with impunity. Try living overseas in a POLICE STATE and maybe you won't be so critical about which box was checked ...

15. A couple of additional points... |
|
He didn't fill it out himself, of course.
The school has addressed the matter and said their practice was to put in the father's religion.
(There are probably forms out there somewhere listing my atheist ass as "Catholic.")

17. Absolutely ... plus he's talked about the political climate in Indonesia |
|
and how he grew to appreciate our country after returning to Hawaii. I thought he said that he picked up on the fact that people in Indonesia weren't free to speak their minds from comments made by his primary school friends. Better for his family to just "go along" than to rock the boat just by checking the wrong box or putting the wrong word on the form ...

that there is something wrong with being a Muslim.
Only a bigot could be persuaded by such an argument.
We don't want their dirty bigot votes. That's the Repug business: scaring up bigot votes.

16. What they're referring to is: |
|
Apparently when Obama first went to school in Indonesia, his stepfather listed "Islam" on some kind of school registration form since it was his stepfather's religion.
