Anybody think that the Greek columns are for security purposes?
If I had to guess, that's what they're for. Eliminates a chunk of the stadium that the Secret Service has to worry about. In fact, if you look at the picture, it's almost like it's set up to be like a cone of protection. Protects from the back and even the sides are slanted in a way to provide cover from other parts of the stadium.

I think the Secret Service wanted something like this and the Obama campaign decided specifically on the design. So before people bash them for this, I think their hand might have been forced.

2. I hate responses like this
It's a goddamn thread on DU that's all, I'm not going to lead protests and circulate petitions that they redesign it.

Just a theory I had that's all.

6. Calm. Take a few minutes, step away
People discuss things on a discussion forum. If it bothers you, steer clear of the topic or grow a thicker skin. Maybe just step away for a bit, go to the lounge and chill.

No use in getting worked up about it.

12. If it's so trivial, then don't respond twice to the thread.
Otherwise you might just end up looking like an ass. Just saying.

11. Excellent, I hope it's pulled off successfully.
I hadn't considered that, I've only seen brief clips of the set up at Invesco and started a thread because it's already being criticized for appearing pompous, especially the columns.

If it comes off well, we'll see less criticism....but we'll still see attacks. Forever.

13. They'll always find distractions, whether we provide them or not.
At least this one has an answer -- an answer that skillfully advances our narrative -- when the Rape-Publicans bring it up.
