She was thrown through the windshield and had a lengthy recovery. She forbade any word of her accident being sent to McCain while he was imprisoned, so he had no idea of the hell SHE went through until his return to the U.S. in 1973.

She was different from the woman he left years before....she was heavier and her physical appearance had changed. Most notably, one of her legs was shorter than the other.

Mrs. McCain welcomed back her broken, physically damaged husband with all her love. John McCain took one look at his wife and immediately embarked on a prolonged period of cheating on her until he finally dumped her and their three kids for Beer Money Cindy.
