1. If a Diebold is in front of me, I'm making a stink... if nothing else.
Where are you?

paper ballots (or printed paper trails) statewide. The states without statewide paper trails are shown in red:

7. You'll have to locate your county on the Virginia state map here -
http://www.verifiedvoting.org/verifier/map.php?&topic_string=5std&year=2008&state=Virginia

Good luck!

At this point it is highly unlikely that you will get your county to change equipment, although you might find out if there are some options that are better than others. For example, in my county in Indiana I can vote on paper if I vote early. If I vote on election day, then I am stuck with an electronic voting machine with no paper receipts.

12. DRE-TS is bad news, but you are not necessarily screwed.
I suggest that you call your local Board of Election Office and ask them whether you have the option of voting on a paper ballot -- by voting absentee or by voting early...

http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/cms/Voter_Information/Index.html

DRE-TS means Paperless Direct Record Electronic Voting Machine with Touch Screen.

Because your county has touch screen voting machines it is now even MORE important that you and everyone else you know goes and votes for Barack. Why? To overwhelm any errors or intended biases in the counting software with HUGE numbers of voters. In 2006 many, many voters cast their ballots on the type of machines you will use and the fact that the turnout was higher than in any other midterm election meant that we still managed to elect a whole lot of Dems.

Make sure you are registered, make sure you have the right I.D. and get out there and do what must be done: VOTE. Citizens in our nation in the past have voted simply to challenge the system even when they were in physical or other danger, even when they knew their vote might not be counted. It is very, very important to go vote whether or not you are certain the vote will count.

14. Fantastic! If people around you are worried about the voting equipment
talk to them about how HUGE numbers of voters can overwhelm some types of errors or intentional cheating on the machines. The more people who vote the more likely it is that Democrats win.

6. We've had EIGHT YEARS to figure it all out, and yet
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 06:28 PM by SoCalDem
we always "wait" until we either just got burned again, or are in danger of getting burned..

Until a republican gets cheated in a big way, nothing will happen, because apparently they are /and have for a long time, driving legislation..

The irony is, it's an incredibly EASY "fix"..

Let the states still run their elections any way they see fit, on any kind of machine or contraption they choose,

BUT BUT BUT

in offices that have NATIONAL significance house, senate, president..we MUST have a standard, universal PAPER (card stock, for easy re-counts & preservation) ballot & a sharpie pen..

That is ALL that's necessary..

It's infintely cheaper to just hire extra counters for election night.

video the counting, and account for every signee & every ballot cast & remaining blank ballots..

All totals have to match before any tallying is done..

Too many ballots to count? Break the precinct into more manageable size..

MORE polling places, less hassle counting..

Use the "machines" for doorstops or anchors..

10. Don't know if it's too late, but you can also demand that Diebold provide a paper trail. Diebold
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 06:46 PM by No Elephants
can easily do that. You can also demand a paper ballot as a back up.
