Sign of theTimes: Dayton, Ohio VP Reveal: McCain Rally Tickets Still Available
This is the much-ballyhooed rally unveiling McCain's VP choice, mind you. The (aptly-named) Nutter Center has a capacity of about 12,000.

http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2008/08/28/ddn082808tickets.html

Keep in mind that Dayton was the second city (after Cleveland) on the Kerry/Edwards "reveal" tour in 2004, and drew a crowd of 18,000. On, like, really short notice. I was there. :-)

Interesting contrast to tomorrow night, isn't it? And

8. I believe there's a Quilting Bee scheduled there...
it's anticipated to have a higher turnout than McCain's speech.

NOTE: It is not my intention to denigrate in any way those who engage in the noble pastime of quilting by implying any correlation with the McCain campaign or the fictitious "Idiot Center." "Quilting Bee" was just the most absurd situation my sleep-deprived brain could conjure up at the moment. Apologies to any potentially-offended quilters.

Seriously, though - find a more exciting hobby.

My bet is that the protesters outside the Nutter Center (snerk) will outnumber the supporters inside.

10. I live an Hour from there and I dont know anyone going....
It is true, the local news is reporting that tickets still remain. They have not gone fast, if Obama was here it would sell out in record time. This area is mainly Republican but this time around I feel a certain hope that Ohio will win this election for Obama.

Even his announcement of a VP cannot draw a crowd, I wanna see his turnout in November be shit!

12. Kerry won Montgomery County (Dayton) 51-49 in 2004
Al Gore won Montgomery County 50-48 in 2000.

McCain is on crack if he thinks he has even the slightest shot of carrying this part of southwestern Ohio. If Obama can take Cincinnati (Hamilton County), I think he wins the Presidency. And in the 2008 Ohio Primary, Obama won Hamilton County with 70% of the vote.

11. Marc Ambinder links to the Dayton Daily News article today... "The Enthusiasm Gap"
McCain is busing in supporters from Indiana and Kentucky to fill 10,000 seats!!! Ha!!!

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/08/the_enthusiasm_gap.php

The way Obama campaign manager David Plouffe tells it, one of the most important national metrics is way underreported. That's the enthusiasm gap between supporters of Barack Obama and supporters of John McCain.

Barack Obama can fill a 75,000 seat stadium.

John McCain, it seems, is having trouble filling a 10,000 seat theater in Dayton. They're giving away free tickets in several states and plan to bus in supporters. The VP announcement can't be overshadowed by a less-than-capacity crowd.

This isn't a McCain-bashing post. McCain's campaign has got to be concerned about the relative level of excitement that the GOP base feels. One way to generate some heat is to turn Barack Obama into a boogeyman. That's had a marginal effect so far. Only McCain can close the gap.

So will his convention next week be about McCain? Or Obama?

Even in the Ohio Primary, they ran out of Obama tickets at the U. of Cincinnati in just hours.

at the Nutter Center and at Stivers High school. In hours. They were gone. And people waited for hours to get one.

21. ROFLMAO! McCain @ Nutter Center. That's just great.
Kinda like the movie cinemas with matinees that accidentally end up having double entendres just through the movie titles.
