I don't like this. If the Republicans delay their convention it would give them an advantage of a later bounce.

President meeting with FEMA and RNC right now over Hurricane Gustav's arrival on Gulf Coast...RNC might delay convention if hurricane is severe on the coast...

1. No can do, I think.
Aren't there a number of states requiring a formal nomination in order to get ballot access before a certain date?

Any ballot access scholars around here this morning?

2. They won't get a bounce. No one cares about their convention.
The people that are supporting McLoon are doing so grudgingly. No one likes the old fucker, they're just not sure of the young black guy. His poll numbers will stay as stagnant as always.

13. By the time polling factors in all of our convention..
a 10-point Obama lead is not unreasonable. No way McSame gets close to that - maybe a conservative VP pick gets him a point or two, and he loses that after his convention speech from McSame overload. :-)

I'm assuming that at least some of these people actually work for a living and don't all have domestic servants to take care of their kids.

4. Pushing back a convention like that would be a logistical NIGHTMARE.
Everything has been geared around those dates, hotel room blocks, travel, catering, staffing, vendors, media coverage, ad buys, venue and equipment rental, etc.

It may SOUND easy to say, "Oh we'll just push it back a few days" but in reality it would be a nightmare.

I don't think they can. And if they do, I think the quality of presentation will suffer.

They are screwed on this one. Guess all that praying for rain in Denver backfired.

26. You are correct
Anyone on this board ever have a large wedding? Or have you attended one? Imagine a bride and groom moving a wedding and reception to a new week three days before the wedding date? No way. This would be like that times 20 thousand.

No way they will move it.

39. Exactly--and even the most diehard R delegates would be furious.
They make their own travel arrangements and pay for it themselves.

There is NO WAY they can do this; no way in heaven or hell.

Then we can focus on the delegates and the money they wasted on airfare, hotel rooms, etc. I'm assuming that not all of their delegates are wealthy.

24. Those dorks can still having their boring, skeleton-rattling convention
in Minneapolis/St. Paul regardless of whether or not Gustav batters the Gulf Coast. Who are these losers trying to fool?

Is * and McCain hoping Gustav will make landfall on Monday, so both those a$$holes can go to the Gulf Coast and perform a live-action photo op during prime-time?

I can see it now - Commander guy and former POW helping poor, black Gulf Coasters into rescue boats......as they should have done 3 years ago?

they've already lost a couple weeks worth of home games, if they have to lose a couple weeks more right in the middle of a playoff run, they'd go ape shit. McCain could kiss minnesota goodbye if he causes the twins to miss the playoffs.

No way. That has no influence of home versus away especially at the end of the season. They'd have to wait until baseball is over I guess. October.

40. it's changed due to hurricanes in 2004
The marlins had to find a new home for awhile back in 2004 when the quartet of hurricanes moved in. They ended up using the Chicago White Sox stadium for their "home" games and had to play an ungodly amount of games in short amount of time. I heard 11 games in 7 days. They were in the playoff hunt until that happened and they missed out.

32. I find this suspect at best
Minnesota has invested millions of dollars into this convention in hopes of seeing positive returns from their investment. People attending the convention have taken time off of work in order to attend these event. To switch it at this late of a moment pretty much is to shoot themselves on the foot.

And anyhow after Gustav we have Hanna barrelling towards Florida.

45. This story is apparently coming from Faux News
I held my nose and checked out the freepers and they are posting that Faux is reporting that Shrub was meeting with FEMA about the Hurricane and what to do about the convention if it hits during that week. I'm not seeing it on Faux's website but their snooze channel may be putting this info out there.

Of course, this would be the perfect propaganda story to justify Shrub not speaking and therefore they have no pictures of the Twins standing together! Great way to "distance" oneself from McLame - acting as if repukes really cared about the people of New Orleans! :eyes:

can be seen as incredibly insensitive to survivors of Hurricaine Katrina. I am sure that disrespecting the survivors of Hurricaine Katrina is not anyone's intention.

Maybe we should forget about the effects of the storms on the GOP Convention and concentrate more on doing what we can to help out our fellow Americans in that region.
