I think he was Republican. Praised the convention, saying it was hitting on all the right notes and then went back to that 1992 speech by Pat Buchanan as an example of what not to have at a convention.

Ouch.

2. Yes I heard it!
That was hillarious. He said it in such an offhand and matter-of-fact way, like everyone knows Pat cost George Bush the election in 1992. LOL.

He said that to discount Buchanon's charge that there wasn't enough red meat at this Dem convention. He was like, what does Pat Buchanon's opinion matter, he cost us the election in 92....

And yeah the guy who said that is a GOP operative.

7. I went out of my way to hear that one
Molly Ivins was right; it had to sound better in the original German.

3. My bro, a staunch ultra-rw repuke, said afterward
"I can't believe they let him on stage with that speech". I don't think many repukes were pissed about the content, only that it was made public.

Pat should thank God that no matter how crazy racist one is, he'll always have work in Big Media.

5. Here's a copy of that speech
http://www.buchanan.org/pa-92-0817-rnc.html

Perhaps the worst convention "endorsement" speech in the history of the United States. I particularly love how he thanks the 19 year troops carrying M-16s who liberated Los Angelas during the riots.

6. As much as the Repubs would love to have Rush or Coulter at a convention...
You know the RNC leadership remembers what happened when Buchanan was allowed to speak about the culture war and how that election ended up.

8. That whole convention was a hate fest
Pat Buchanan was big contributor to setting an early tone of division and hate.
Perfect counterpoint to Clinton's message of hope and change and economic prosperity.
And remember - GWHBush was a war hero coming into the election season with incredibly high ratings.
Ron Brown organized a great convention for the dems and Carville and Stephanopoulus and others ran a great campaign.
