Actually he does not sound drunk, but something is wrong with his speech. Stroke?

24. It was me. I was told in my thread that he was born with a cleft lip and when tired it acts up.

26. Oh - that's too bad.
But better than being an indication of a stroke or other problem. Thanks.

ineffective whether his speech is slurred or not.

15. I agree. I'm not sure why they even put him on. He hates Obama
and made that clear while on a hot mic at Fox News.

12. He sounds fine to me - I thought initially he was overwhelmed with emotion.
As he keeps saying he was crying a lot tonight.

Lord knows a lot of African American civil rights leaders are doing the same.

Peace.

13. I've noticed he's been sounding like that for some time now.
I think it could be stroke or medication. He is up in years.

14. Jackson was born

with a cleft lip, and it effects his speech more at some times than as others, like when he's tired. (btw: Tom Brokaw was also born with a cleft lip.)

29. I did not realize that - I never noticed it before
And I can understand how a problem would be worse when he is tired. This week must have been very wearing for a man his age.

Thanks for the information!

But thanks for being mean to the man. His history is filled with both good and bad things, but to call him drunk is low.

Hopefully they will just go far away and punch holes in their walls, or whatever bigots do in their spare time.

I was actually kind of concerned about him since his speech was more affected than I have ever heard.

36. I should not have used the subject line I did - and realized too late to change it
Since my fourth concussion I get aphasia when I am tired - can't think of words or get them wrong. Some people have thought I was drunk or on drugs at those times so I should know better.

I never thought about the people who might have trouble understanding Rev. Jackson's accent.

33. He did sound drunk though
and I've listened to him for forty years. I've never heard sound like that before. I'm thinking he could have been over tired, as I don't picture him as a drinker even socially. I don't sound too coherent when I'm over tired.

38. I really wonder if he's had a stroke. I saw footage of him at Tavis Smiley's
"State of the Black Union" thing, and I could barely understand anything he said, so it's not just tonight.

Sometimes as people age, their regional accents and such get really strong, but this seems like more than that.
