Senator Barack Obama, I believe in you.
I believed in you when you were a distant fourth for the U.S. Senate Democratic nomination. I struggled through those months in early 2004, amazed at your rise in the polling before MArch when I and more than 50% of Illinois Democrats cast our votes for you to be our nominee.

I believed in you when you were running against "Generic Republican" because nobody was running yet after JAck Ryan left the race, but everybody expected you'd lose because of course former Governor Edgar would pull this out for the Republicans, Jack Ryan be damned.

I believed in you when nobody knew the guy that was giving a keynote speech one night in the 2004 Democratic NAtional Convention. I believed your speech would move me more than the first speech I ever heard you give where you told me a many other Chicagoans in Federal Plaza that you weren't against all wars, you were just against dumb wars.

And, I believed in you when you were constantly counted out of the Democratic primaries. You were a guy with a promising career, but this wasn't your time, or so the stories passed off by the punditry went.

And Senator, I believe in you today. I believe you will take this nation to a new height. I believe you WILL win on November 4th. I believe it WILL be a clear victory with a mandate. I believe your coattails WILL bring a Senate with enough votes that those who peddle fear, uncertainty, and doubt will be unable to obstruct a progressive agenda for the United States.

I believe that in America, it's possible for a skinny kid with a funny name who comes from a family of modest means can rise above his surroundings and excel as an example for all the world.

I believe.
