Here is the distressing thing about Palin
Whar does it say about family values when you run for Governor. let alone Veep when you child has Downs Syndrome?

Michelle put her kids front an cernter saying that they are her "world" and that nothing is more important.

1. I guess barefoot and pregnant would be better to you?
I've read a lot of stuff on this forum but that comment is inflammatory enough to inspire me to sign up. If you don't think a woman should be allowed to have a career because she has a child with a disability you are in the wrong party.

Don't vote for her because of McCain, not because she's a woman with a career.

3. You think "a career" is the same as being the Vice President while this country is in TWO wars?
Really?

So any woman who has a child with down syndrome should stay at home "takin care of the little uns" and be disqualified from public service?

Bull shit.

She's not qualified for VP but it's not because she's got a child with DS.

7. This aint just a public career. This is VICE FUCKING PRESIDENT.
Her kids are going to be raised mostly by nannies and dad, its as simple as that. If her kids were teens or at least old enough to go to school thats one thing, but this is something else. She is sacrificing her family for herself.

4. I believe the point is that from a Republican family values aspect
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 10:03 AM by elocs
that it would be hypocritical for a woman to leave a 5 month old special needs baby to campaign for the vice presidency in a McCain administration. Republicans cannot claim to have it both ways concerning their stance on family values.

On edit, I'm really sorry you cannot grasp this point. It is pretty simple. It's about Republican hypocrisy.

6. Point taken
I hope you're right. My sarcasm radar goes down when DS comes into the situation.

8. You missed the point
This will be a very interesting issue among female values voters. Downs babies require alot of effort by both parents.l I am not saying she does not have the right to hold office or any job for that matter. But for values voters it will raise question about how she priotitizes life.

9. I agree with you...
I'm all for women having careers and children all at the same time, but I think leaving a 4 month old with DS to campaign and then possibly getting the VP position (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN), will be perceived by the RW values voters as questionable.

10. I don't think it is just
about having a special needs child. It is a question of timing. Now is not Palin's time, plain and simple (not saying there will ever be a time for her). This pick of Palin would have been more effective in a few years. Putting children first in a family is not just a woman's obligation. Joe Biden was going to give up his place in the Senate when his boys lost their mother. He only kept it because he was able to be with them every night.
