especially on international affairs
The only way it would be dangerous for Obama or Biden is if they fail to talk about the issues

It WILL attract at least 2-4% of undecided women, like it or not.
They WILL claim sexism whenever we attack her, and as we've seen, that can work.
On the plus side, however, he will lose some support among men, so his gains among women might balance out.

42. Give women a little credit for not being stupid. |
|
Democratic and Independent women aren't going to vote for someone just becuase they're female when they have absolutely NO experience and are extremely conservative on women's issues. Feminists are not impressed by beauty queen titles, in fact it tends to piss them off. Republican women couldn't care less about voting for a woman; most of them just vote with their husbands and the rest don't give any special consideration to women.
Obama's not dumb enough to attack her personally. Biden will do so with a hammer and velvet glove -- he has tons of charm and knows how to use it. He doesn't need to attack her when she's as inexperienced as she is. He will tie her in knots with a big smile and lots of charm. And, I think they'll use female surrogates like McCaskill, Sebilious and Wasserman-Schultz to really pound her on women's issues.
I couldn't be happier with this insane VP pick, and I've read the Obama camp is ecstatic.

The only thing that stands out about Palin is that she is a woman. That is not enough. Also, with McCain's health, her clear unreadiness to take over becomes an issue.

21. Dangerous only because of the low information voters, short time to the election, but still bad.... |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 10:14 AM by MarjorieG
when you consider McCain's history on women's issues. Spotlight now on his really heartless policy choices of women and, again, lack of experience. The Rove machine will do what they can to fix the story, push media, and certainly the GOP could take over for her should something happen to McCain. Is that change? What division of responsibilities could he give her.
How much would the media cover for him, and not go after Palin on the merits?
Really do wonder in an American Idol age, and of Sarkozy's Carla, could they pull off a stolen election with just enough cover. Cannot get complacent.

She kills off the "no experience" attack line that McCain was using, and it hauls his age and infirmity front and center. If he dies, is Sarah Palin, the 44-year-old governor of Alaska (who has been governor for only a year and a half), ready to lead the country?

But I'm saying that the Palin pick is not as frightening as everyone is making it out to be anymore. It's better than Mittens or Joe Lieberman or T-Paws, but she's the best of a shitty field of candidates.

Kills his experience meme, and they're taking on someone in the middle of a pretty significant scandal. AND there's still a segment of republican voters who'll never vote for a woman, even as a VP.
Weak, weak, weak.

41. I'd think Hillary Clinton and her strongest supporters will be inspired even more to vote against |
|
this ticket. Many of her supporters wanted Hillary to be the first woman in the White House and even said that they would be extremely angry if Obama picked a woman who wasn't Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton was not just a symbolic female candidate but had enormous substance, especially in the domain of women's issues, something Palin doesn't have.
I do think, however, that in any debate against Biden, this changes the equation. Biden will want to handle her carefully and not beat up on this lady too much, as it might create some sympathy among female voters if Biden wipes the floor with her, as he could do with any opponent.
