Chuck Todd: Kay Bailey Hutchison was "furious" about Palin
and implied that KBH was probably thinking: "Is this the best qualified woman for the ticket"? Andrea chimed in that indeed KBH's defense of Palin was "weak"

2. I agree.
This is obviously a token pick...if he was going to pick a woman, he picked Palin?

3. As she should be. KBH is actually qualified to be VP. Palin is not....
This is a slap-in-the-face to women who fought to rise through the ranks of the Republican party on the national stage.

Palin is lame.

19. KBH was the ONLY pick that worried me
I felt she was the only pick that could have potentially pulled Hillary voters. This inexperienced right wing piece of fluff doesn't worry me in the slightest.

or promoted before them.

It's unfair on a very basic level.

And although men aren't familiar with it because it hardly affects them, it hits a HUGE nerve with women.

15. I think men have this experience too, although it isn't as blatant
part of it is that I think Hutchinson is more moderate, isn't she? McCain needed a fundie to placate his base.

25. They have it to an insignificant degree. That's why most just don't get it.
And no, Hutchison is not moderate. (Not to mention, Palin agrees with Obama's plan for a windfall tax on oil companies, so... ?)

26. KBH is not moderate
my son's job one year was doing oppo research for the dems in the US Senate. He had to listen to everything every Senator said (as best he could).

He hated KBH the most of all senators. He said she was the most partisan. To her is was 100% partisan. Never said anything about policy or positions, only how awful the dems were.

I've listened to her since then and agree.

23. Yep. I don't think the neophyte will impress any Hilary fans
It will have the opposite effect. It will also hit a nerve with the old time repub women.

And I think a lot of fundamentalists will balk at a woman.

11. Why do the Repubs continue
this charade? The Keystone Kops are in charge. They have a man running for president who obviously miscounted his marbles and now they are putting a relative unknown in as VP. Do they really have that much money to squander? It makes me wonder if the race has already been "fixed." Are they so sure they will win they don't care what they do?

17. I'm interested to see just how strongly female GOP surrogates
defend and promote the McCain/Palin ticket. Because the Palin pick is a slap in the face to all women. The fact that he picked her shows just how little respect he has toward women. Because if he thinks Hillary=Palin, then that means he sees women voters as stupid and easily led.

Personally, I'm insulted by this pick.

33. I think the Palin choice highlights how disposable McCain is to the GOP.
I think they are writing off the election. This is not to say they don't have other plans to retain power.
