1. I just tuned in. Palin is McCain's VP Pick?
Isn't there some sort of large scandal brewing around her up in Alaska?

3. Yeah, her GOP lege has set aside $100,000 to investigate her for
abuse of power for firing her public safety commissioner. He claims she did it because he wouldn't fire a trooper who was her ex brother-in-law.

She's a light-weight: BA in Journalism from U of Idaho.

11. also has a poli-sci degree
it's a mistake to underestimate the opposition. by not telling the full story, others here might be given the false impression that the journalism degree is the extent of her education.

15. I thought it was a minor in poli-sci, but I am more
nervous. There are too many people who think she has the experience to be president. I've lost faith in peoples' ability to see through the RW media spin and understand what she is.

2. I wonder. I should think they'd be more than happy

...to wash their hands of this cesspool they've created and laugh while watching the Dems have to clean up their mess.

4. They aren't smart enough to pull that off
Seriously, they don't get it. They are trying to show them that they can be change too, while pushing the same old issues. Most intelligent voters will see through it especially during the debates.

5. The R Party, I don't know. McCain--no. McCain is serious as a heart attack.
The man has sold his soul for that office over the years and, by god, he's gonna get it even if it kills him trying.

6. I do.
This choice proved it. They know they are going down, so why not at least TRY to appear progressive. (I say that tongue in cheek)

7. Depends which Repubs You're Talking About
The hard-core neocons are a little flummoxed by their extreme unpopularity, but I think, for the most part they're still trying. Neocon members of the Bush administration may wish to lie low for 4 years because a Democratic Congress under McCain could always be pushed too far and start looking to prosecute holdovers if they are still politicizing the Justice Dept., or set precedent re: the Constitutionality of "signing statements". However, Repubs from large banks, and some other big corporatist players are perhaps nervous about the consequences of another four years of neocon economic policies, which is why Obama has gotten a fair amount of money and some advisors from this group.

8. mixed bag?
The Rovians desperately want another term to paper-over their crimes.

The moneybags and other neocons may realize we're going down in flames as a country, so may want to lose so they can blame the dems and make a comeback in 4 years.

I expect there's just plain chaos on the dark side these days!

9. I'm starting to think so
They may focus on making Obama look bad, and all throughout his presidency. That may be their best change for regaining the WH down th road.

13. I thought so way back when McCain became the presumtive nominee
A huge percentage of his party (especially the base) hates him. They saw the writing on the wall. They knew they had no chance in November and decided to set McCain up to take a fall. They didn't really like him in the first place.

If you look at this another way, you can see that they're keeping Romney off the ticket and untarnished by a failed VP run. Let McCain lose on his own and go off into retirement. Then Romney will be ready in 4 years if they can't find anyone else better under their rock.

I made a similar observation months ago during the primaries, but now it's becoming clearer and clearer.

14. One of my first thoughts was that they know they haven't a chance
But from what I read about Palin---and I don't know if this was brought up in McCain's speech of why he chose her---she can be touted as a Washington outsider and a reformer. She's done some work in ethics reform. I think they're going to push that as what she brings to the table. It's a challenge to Obama---you want to change Washington, well we have someone who can help McCain do that.

But, I'm amazed that he would choose a person that I don't think many people would have confidence in as president, if anything were to happen to McCain. He seems to have left that out of the equation.
