2. I get it--you're trying to figure out an angle. The GOP is crafty but not stupid...usually.
I don't think there is an angle this time--they really, really are this desperate.

3. This is perplexing.
Suddenly I don't underestimate the opposition, that makes me into the opposition? Great, I guess there's no reason to bust our asses working for Obama, we obviously have this one in the bag. :sarcasm:

There are real legitimate reasons to be concerned about this choice, and NOT to underestimate McCain, the Republican media and spin machine, especially when they are in desperation mode as they are right now.

9. Its a sad case for the this discussion board to make fun of
posters who have valid concerns.

To underestimate the repugs is not wise.

And it was a desperate move on mccains part -IMHO--. He has actively been courting the womens vote and he may get some from this political move. Then again he may lose some. We have to let it play out for a while. Too soon to tell.

You "concern" is also duly noted.

It's not too soon to tell, not at all. This was without a doubt a desperate, hail mary pick to, as McCain even admits "shake up the system". It was immature and politically calculated and rash. That's how he makes his decisions.

8. I don't believe it was a good pick for the nation, but I understand it.
Politically, McSame wants to ride the corporate media promoted gender wave of which they have magnified throughout the Democratic Primary.

Palin is also a global warming denier, who believes the Polar Bear should be taken off the threatened species list, something the oil corporations would love in order to make drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge much easier. McSame knows if the oil corporations are willing to buy corrupt incompetence such as Cheney/Bush in to power, they will be happy to send money his direction with another corporate oil loving VP pick.

17. It's a good desperate pick
I posted a long opinion in the Intrade thread. Every political gambler I talked to or emailed today thinks McCain is slightly better positioned based on this pick. That was my instinct also. I damn sure wish he had picked a white male bozo.

The situational advantage is ours and Obama is rightfully a 60/40 favorite.

...you cannot steal an election when there are too many large leads in key states.

Watch the electoral numbers in each of those states instead of the national tracking polls.

21. On paper, she is a completely ridiculous pick. In reality ... AMERICANS ARE STOOOOPID!
That's my concern ... I'm already hearing people being interviewed about how excited they are about having a good Christian pro-life mom on the ticket blah blah blah. Americans are stupid and easily led. I know 2000 and 2004 elections were stolen, but they were close enough for the GOoPers to steal. That's cuz Americans are STOOPID! George W. Bush is a circus clown, barely conversant in the English language. And he's a two-term president. I rest my case.

Sara Palin may look completely ridiculous to us, but there will be lots of fundies out there who will fall madly in love with her.

27. DING DING DING We have a winner.
All this has to do is stay in the fucking news to increase his poll numbers.

And if it looks like a horse race:

Teh sheeple love an underdog (and his perky (fundy) sidekick). THe "Don't ya just LOVE her" vote could be huge.

The Guns'n Jesus brigades are going to be chomping at the bit to elect a woman who can kill and gut a fucking ELK and stop an abortion all in the same afternoon.

At this late stage, vilifying her with the TRUTH is going to be very difficult as long as the maverick myth is being spun.

She could be the stupidist fucking pick out there, but here in Bizzarro world it makes perfect sense.

Belize. I'm riding my bicycle to Belize.

I've been over-confident before! Never underestimate how STUPID the American public can be.

I think (or hope) the point is that we can't take anything for granted, and need to continue to work and contribute and get out the vote for Obama-Biden.

24. It seems wrong to say that they 'lucked out' with Smirk,
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 10:19 AM by Sugarcoated
but, they lucked out with Smirk. Dumbed down, 'folky', all the right issues for the bible thumpers. They were in the process of pushing another Smirtk-like idiot with George Allen, but he was too racist. Then their other 'folky' guy, Fred Thompson the 'second coming of Reagan, their ace in the hole, was a snoozer.

Bush/Rove'ers like Mary Matalin think that's 'the formula'. This VP pick not only shows astoundingly poor judgement on McShmuck's part, but reminds America of the cronyism and the endless stream of incompetent appointments under Smirk/Snarl. I don't think it's gonna fly. Most of America is done with it, they're angry. Enough.

on the Board, exactly, but if anyone wants to call me a troll, that's fine. My guess is that this trick will not work, as the enormity of the possible consequences of the choice sinks in, but I wouldn't bet on it not working in McCain's favor.

31. It's going to work for their faithful and the fundies
and they might snag a small percentage of suburban moms, but they'll be women who just aren't paying that much attention. The number of PUMA's are a greatly exagerated.

I believe a majority of American's are fucking angry and Obama sealed the deal Thursday night. They threw a hail mary, changed their message, muddied the waters and figured, they better rev up their base because McSchmuck's banging his head at 45%. I'm no expert, but I think McSchmucks people feel they have no choice but to get their base energized. The experience message is working as well as it did for Hillary and they're trying to take over the change message, but they're calling it 'reform'.

They may gain some votes in the western states, solidify some southern states that were going to win anyway. People vote for the top of the ticket and Obama passed the commander-in-chief test and then some.

30. I'll admit all day yesterday I was concerned
She is a fundie and this will help more fundies go to the polls and even if she eeks out a few more female moderate votes it could throw McSame/Failin over the top.

However, this morning, as I have read more it seems like they have not really vetted this women. Of course we can look at her very rocky past but the key is will the media do the same? If they do they could have a field day with her.

and they were working it hard. It's meant to be demoralizing. But all the spinning in the world can't change the facts on the ground.
This one isn't going work for them. It's too irresponsible. A 72 year old 4 time melanoma cancer survivor in a scary world picks a soccer mom who eats moose burgers to be his backup?? They're in their own little world over there in far right land if they think middle America is going go for it.
