Judgement Beyond His Years: A Short Piece by My Father
The local campaign group that my dad has been working at wanted members to become experts at responding to some of the typical reservations/ complaints people have about Obama. My dad's issue was Obama's so called lack of experience and judgement. I'm not sure if he plans on giving this to people that he meets, reciting it, paraphrasing it, or whatever, but he e-mailed it to me last night and I think it's great.

Judgment beyond his years

Jack Kennedy was 45 years old, 2 years younger than Barack Obama, when he had to make one of the most important decisions of the 20th century, perhaps of all time. When, during the Cuban Missile crisis he was urged by vastly more experienced men to respond with force, Jack Kennedy responded with a composure, a determination…and a judgment beyond his years…that may very well have saved the World from nuclear annihilation.

So as each of us steps into the voting booth on November 4th, it would be well if we would ask ourselves, how would John McCain have reacted if he were in Jack Kennedy’s place? Would John McCain have struggled till the last possible second to find a peaceful solution…some clue, any clue, in the cryptic messages coming from Soviet Premier, Nikita Khrushchev that there might just be a way out short of war…or would an angry John McCain, as we watched him do with Iraq, have chosen to fight rather than think?

When Abraham Lincoln ran for President, he was 51 years old, 4 years older than Barack…and had less political experience than almost any other man who has ever made a bid for the Presidency. Nevertheless Lincoln methodically…decently…and unerringly….won out over more experienced men. His victory both stunned and stung his rivals. But, through the strength of his character and his temperament, and based on incredible insight and judgment, Lincoln made of those rivals a team; a team of supporters, of powerful allies, and of lifelong, loyal and admiring friends who helped mightily in the preservation of the Union.

Recently, at the Democratic National Convention we all watched as the Clintons, two of the most talented and experienced politicians in America…beaten but never bloodied by Obama…were inspired to rise magnificently to the occasion perhaps performing better for Obama than they had for themselves. Joe Biden, another gifted and highly experienced former rival is now a passionately committed running mate.

We should not be surprised that, Like Lincoln, Barack Obama has embraced his former rivals…or that they have embraced him. This is what great leaders do. They bring out the best in people, all people. They inspire each of us by their example to find it in ourselves to be more than we were before.

Let me know what you guys think!

2. Could you get permission from your father for us to go viral with his
beautiful little piece? If he wants us to use his name, please post it, and in any case please post his answer.
