So How DO Attorneys Deal With Female Witnesses In The Courtroom? How Should Biden Deal W/Palin
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 08:46 PM by cryingshame
How does Biden and Obama's team in general deal with Palin. Are there any prosecutors here?

From DUer aint_no_life_nowhere

"You are absolutely right in stating that Biden shouldn't have to pull his punches and that Palin should be able to stand on her own two feet in a debate. .... But in the real world, you have both men and women who don't have this consciousness.

In the courtroom, for example, male attorneys who cross-examine female witnesses, especially mothers, realize they have to treat them with greater care than male witnesses because to do otherwise is to turn them into a sympathetic figure with the jury. They usually refrain from beating them up on the witness stand but go about their task with more subtlety. It's the same thing if an attorney has to cross-examine a child. Unfortunately, gender is a factor in a courtroom.

It's still a factor with many in our society. Juries are not always composed of feminists or progressives or those who are conscious of the struggle of women who would see this issue and react to it the way you do. If Biden confronts Palin, blasts her out of the water, and makes her look like a blithering idiot on stage, he'll be seen by some as a cad and not a gentleman."

1. These are moderated debates, the candidates won't be questioning each other.

2. I say ignore gender
The only big difference is "the parts" and thus I think that Biden should hit just as hard against McCain and Palin as he would have against a male VP.

5. public perception is important. And since mediawhores will spin for McCain, Biden and Obama
must take Palin's gender into account.

6. usually
you get a female attorney on staff to do the dirty work.

Cue Hillary, Claire, Wasserman-Schultz, and some of the other top women in the Democratic party to show their disdain for this blatant, pander pick.
