I think MCCAIN is the one with the hubris problem, not Obama...
...this VP pick today told me two things about John McCain:

1. He clearly thinks of himself as God's gift to women. That is to say, he obviously feels that his personality is so appealing to the opposite sex that he is confident pulling a stunt like this would work--instead of being seen by anyone with a brain to be a supreme instance of pandering. Then again, considering his track record with wives and girlfriends, this really isn't such a surprise...

2. He thinks of himself as younger than he actually is. When you're 72 and have a history of health problems, it's pretty damn risk to pick a running mate who clearly isn't qualified to cover for you, since you're more at risk for being incapacitated than anyone else in history. Why else did Reagan pick George HW Bush? Certainly not for his winning personality...

The GOP has a history of rewarding macho a-holes, but I'm not so sure it's going to work this time...
