If the gossip about Sarah Palin claiming her daughter's baby is hers is true
It is relevant because the right wingers are all about abstinence before marriage. To have your 17 year old be an unwed mother would be embarrassing to say the least.

However, a 44 year old is much more likely to have a Downs syndrome child than a 17 year old.

However however, the picture of Sarah Palin at supposedly 6 months makes her look like she was wearing a girdle. I have not seen a 6 month pregnant woman with that flat a stomach.

3. Yes. There are other syndromes associated with older fathers too, e.g. Apert's Synd.

I looked that up earlier today. First, it's not unheard of for young women to have a Down S. baby
it more common for women around 35 and even MORE common for older women coupling with older men.

However, there was no relation shown between older men and younger women.

But then, perhaps that simply wasn't given a large enough sample.

2. No, her daughter having a baby is unimportant
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 10:15 PM by Greg K
Attacking her kid's mistakes is a losing proposition.

If she's covering it up, though, it speaks volumes about her honesty and THAT is why it's important.

That said, there needs to be proof or it's bullshit to pursue it. It's Larry Sinclair-level stuff.

18. Wrong
If true, it highlights her poor parenting skills. While DUers and Dems in general can be very forgiving in that area, the repukes cannot, therefore, it's not a losing proposition.

30. It has nothing to do with her parenting skills
It is about heractively covering up her child's pregnancy and breaking the law while doing so

Add this to the misconduct with the police chief and it is game over for McSame

I just hope the story does not fully break until after the Repug convention. She needs to be LOCKED in as VP candidate before she gets blown up

26. It ain't her kid's mistake
Teens are physically mature and it is highly unrealistic and utterly against human nature to expect that teens, all of them, will remain abstinent.

If her daughter got pregnant, it was because she was a teen behaving as teens naturally do.

The mistake is the anti- sex education, anti-birth control agenda being pushed by her mother and others like her. And tidying up reality to support the lies that are at this very moment responsible for killing kids all around the globe is to perpetuate those lethal lies.

Teens have sex, and can get pregnant. This is neither a mistake nor a shame. I'm the (put up for adoption) product of a teen pregnancy, and I sure don't think my existence is shameful. The shame is borne by those who keep teens from the knowledge and tools to prevent unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease.

4. If it is true, it will be spun as a concerned mother protecting her teenager's future......
...and there's truth in that.

Lots of mothers in the country would relate to that.

I think it is a BAD thing for us to focus on.

29. If the daughter had the baby, they baby would cease to be covered by Sarah's insurance
when Sarah's daughter got to be a certain age. If Sarah says the baby is hers, the baby is covered for her whole childhood.

Felony insurance fraud.

9. It's about the possibility of
and elected official (and the presumptive Vice Presidential Republican nominee) lying to her constituents and insurance fraud.

It's not about her daughter or the baby.

16. Ehhh...
I'm average weight, not pregnant, but since I was a teenager if I gain any weight it's down there in my tummy so I could end up looking like that in certain close fitting shirts... I don't know, she just looks a bit bloated to me, not pregnant... if she was pregnant at that time I think they woulda tried to hide it, not taken a picture where it looked at all obvious...

13. And if it's true it WILL come out.
There's really no point in debating whether DUers should be discussing this (as some have). This is something that has apparently already been openly wondered about in Alaska. I don't think anyone can stop the story at this point if they wanted to. For my money, the story is pretty obviously true, as wild as it seems. The photos, the late announcement, the daughter missing school, the airplane thing. And teenagers are at high risk for DS babies just as older women are. I mean as far as I'm concerned, the facts are already out and it's just a matter of whether you choose to accept it or not. I don't see any way possible to explain it all away.
