8. I always figured that Bush was a puppet. Maybe this is the same kind of setup. |
|
McCain dies (natural, no conspiracies needed), and the "new" puppet gets installed?

2. I suspected they didn't during the last congressional elections. It may be that |
|
they've decided they've reached the point in the cycle where the Dems clean up their mess. They'll come back for another round in a few years.

nonsense.
I think they do want to win and utterly shameless ridiculousness is their ticket to win.

when failed Sec. of Defense Cheney was chosen as VP. They've got to be kidding, we said? This time leave no stone unturned.

They still have congressional seats up for grabs, and a dwindling base to keep entertained.

It could be his handlers or the party insiders, the real people pulling the strings.

It could be the trillions in derivatives debt that some economists believe will soon destroy the US financial system. Bernanke and Paulson are doing everything possible to keep those chickens from coming to roost on Shrub's watch.

This election is in no way in the bag. Just ask Dewey how 'in the bag' elections (according to the media) can be lost.

19. I think that the GOP's so radicalized themselves |
|
that they squeezed out all the normal people. Now, in an election where they have to either get the normal people that they evicted to vote for them or try to convert more neo-conservatives, they just don't know where to start. They're trying to cover their asses at both ends and ending up with this bullshit instead.
They want to win and the only thing allowing them to hang on is that they're cockroaches in how honed their primitive political instincts have become.

25. The problem is, they're counting on the American people being radicalized as a whole |

And from what I have seen from the last 8 years, they may be right.

...they get away with so much shit that people react passively too, they must be in shock when once in a while they hit a wrong nerve.
McCain's campaign has been taken over by the fundies.

21. I think they gave McCain the nomination to get him out of the way, and he gave the VP to a woman |
|
so in future elections they can claim that as political capital to try to win back the soccer-mom's.
I'm glad to see another woman nominated after a way too long dry spell, but don't anyone fool themselves as to the Republicans' motives. Mondale was a progressive, he chose for the right reasons. McCain is just doing some long term calculations.
Not to mention he's desperate.

I think that was always the plan. They figured way back that 2008 belonged to Hillary and the Dems, and they'd just wait and "gingrich" the midterms. Looks like they hadn't counted on Obama, but they're in for a penny in for a pound with McCain.
