I think I've figured out the Palin choice
They know McCain is toast. They won't get any Dems crossing over. They even know they'll lose a big chunk of indies no matter what.

However, their biggest fear and greatest danger is that their "base" seriously erodes. Naming any of the hot-potatoes -- like Mittens -- could cause a lot of die-hard GOPers to become "Obama Republicans" -- sort of like the disgusting Reagan Democrats.

Palin will rally the faithful and at least keep the party regulars in the corral until the next time. If they start wandering all over the place, they may never get them back.

She'll appeal to the fundies, GOP women who wanted to vote for a women, GOPers who want "change" of some kind, etc.

So, they know they'll lose, but at least they'll keep the party together for the next shot.

Make any sense?

1. They're playing to win, sry. They're trying to energize the base and peel
off disgruntled Hillary supports and other undecided women.

2. I don't think real Hillary supporter's will be swayed by this woman
If the women they are trying to "peel" away are true supporters, there's no way they would vote for a woman who wants to set woman's rights back 40 years. Now, the women that may have supported Hillary solely because she has a vagina, that's a whole other issue.

4. Yes, it makes sense.
Palin will be THE talking point in 2012. They knew they couldn't win it this time, but there's no law against settin' it up for next time.

"Remember, ladies, it was the GOP who put a woman on the ticket, when your party had a great woman candidate and wouldn't give her the VP slot."

Bay Buchanan (surprise, surprise!!!) rolled that out like a RED carpet tonight on CNN.

16. Nance, speaking of Bay, WHY do they let these non-stop talking blabbermouths run on and on? Talk
about hurting the women's movement, imo. Four panelists, 3 men and 1 woman, or 2 of each, and the women dominate, non-stop. I guess the guys are too gentlemanly to interrupt? Palin already strikes me as verbose - Joe can't afford to stand there and let HER run on and on, imo.

5. They will go nuclear with the sexism card against Obama
It was gaining traction when the Clinton campaign used it ... and they will exploit it for every thing they can. The Obama campaign will never have to say a thing to be blamed. As soon as any pundit talks about what "leftwing bloggers" are saying it will be hell unleashed against the sexist, anti-family Democrats. Count on it.

9. And what's truly awful about it...
is that Obama is a million times more of a feminist than Sarah Palin. John McCain's actions in the past show a pattern of sexism that is firmly built into his character. Barack loves and respects his wife and two daughters very much. Michelle said recently that she has never been disappointed by him. Every time she expects to be, he surprises her and goes way beyond expectations. I wonder what Cindy McCain thinks of that after being called a "trollup" and a "cunt" by her beloved husband John McSexist. And we all know the story of him cheating on his first wife with Cindy because his first wife was no longer attractive enough for him after she was disfigured in a car accident.

That's why it's going to be truly disgraceful to watch the media go for this Rovian plot hook, line, and sinker.

I understand how these fundie nutcases think. Simply having a hot woman represent their views makes them seem proud.

8. "They" didn't pick her, McCain did.
"They" told him he couldn't pick Lieberman, so he picked her.

He could have just as easily picked Ridge or Pawlenty.

Bad decision on his part.

14. Alaska *will* stay red, but other states will turn blue this year...
I lived most of my life in Alaska, and while I thought there was the slim possibility it could actually go blue this year, the Palin selection ensures it will stay red...she's pretty popular there. Which just means we have to count on the rest of the country to keep their heads on.

Her popularity is about to take a serious hit.

23. Mc Cain didn't choose shit Rove is running the show. Gramps isn't even allowed to hold a news

conference. He is a surrogate candidate and
will have no control over policy period.

They'll let him fly around on Air Force One
pretending to be the CIC as long as he keeps
his trap shut and plays the game.

12. Hillary voters are not idiots

Thing is, NOT EVERY women liked Hillary. My mother, my wife even (and she's rabidly pro choice).

And not every women was going to vote for Hillary just like not every women will vote for Palin.

Hillary voters didn't like Hillary just because she was a women, but rather because Hillary shared their values. Being a women was icing on the cake, the 'yea, she's one of us'.

Palin will disgust most Hillary voters as soon as they begin to peel back the skin of the onion.

If sticking a women on a ticket promised women votes en masse Walter Mondale would have been our President.

13. I think old man McCain got a new Viagra prescription.
If he was going to pick a woman, there are certainly several qualified Republican women to choose from. Instead, he opted for a person with little experience he had talked to once. ONCE! Guess he saw that photo of her in a leather mini skirt.

And I agree with your post. The old geezer looks in the mirror and still sees a stud, I guess. And probably a woody is a strange but pleasurable sensation anymore.
