The time has come. I'm fully behind Obama/Biden.
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 02:20 AM by Skip Intro

This took a long time. He was not my choice. I became a Hillary fan out of protest. The Obama zealots here - during the primaries, the way she and her supporters here were treated, the loyalty oath demands and the judgment of who is a real Democrat and who isn't. I decided I'd never vote for him. Dem straight down the line, maybe Green for the top slot. And that attitude was born of true belief and fueled by resentment at what transpired here and elsewhere. And yeah, some of the people at that other forum, who used to be here, I feel, are good people. Just offended, still. Justified, imho, but the time for that discussion has passed, at least for now.

I'm not going to bow before Obama. I haven't been moved to tears by his speeches. I'm not caught up in the frenzy of adulation. But he rang some bells with me in his acceptance speech. He put some new questions in my mind as well, I'll be honest. But when you look at the alternative, especially now, there is no other choice. We cannot allow McCain to win.

So I have my doubts, and still some hard feelings, but I have finally decided to support, as much as I can, Obama/Biden. I won't ever stop defending Hillary here, she is one awesome person, and one awesome Democrat, and I won't stop sticking up for her supporters, when warranted. But the time for me has finally come to get on board.

I will vote Obama/Biden. I will encourage others to do so as well.

Just wanted to get that out of the way.

4. I agree that Hillary is awesome.
I've hated the bashing, but I think a lot of people here saw how classy a person she was the other night and repented. I'm glad you are on board. We need everyone.

After today, I'm going to work my ass off to get Obama elected. McCain has shown in the past couple years, punctuated with his VP pick today that he is more batshit insane than than Marlon Brando in 'Apocalypse Now'. We've really got no choice but to elect President Obama come November.

there's too much at stake. Think about the supreme court judges that the right will pick. That's critical, and will be a force in all of our lives for years to come. We can not let the republicans call the shots any longer. We just can't. I decided to put my reservations about Obama aside, and trust that Joe Biden knows what he is doing, thus, I should follow his lead.

Please think about this carefully.

Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 01:51 AM by TheWraith
"zealots," "loyalty oath demands," et al? To be blunt, despite what the PUMAs would have you believe, this place was never really that hostile to Clinton supporters, only to the obnoxious Clinton supporters who wanted to live in their own bubble and spread false and abusive nonsense. Witness how civil and pleasant the week long "boycott" of DU by the nuttier HCF elements was. It certainly wasn't the Obama people who had left.

And you way too easily forget the whole of 2007 during which any criticism of Clinton was shouted down with the demand that we get used to her being the nominee and swear to vote for her.

Nobody cares that you don't love Obama. All that's expected is the same thing that's demanded of ANYONE who calls themselves a Democrat: that they support the party's nominee. That's not really controversial.

12. I don't want to get into this, I wasn't going to reply to this thread at all
I was just - I dunno - putting into words where I am now.

And I don't want to rehash anything here. But I was here for the primaries. I'm not going by what others have said, I'm going by what I saw, and what I was a recipient of. Yeah, I was told to leave the party, get the f out, no longer welcome. I was called a racist because I dared question his sincerity. I've seen some vile crap here directed at Hillary and me and other supporters. I didn't imagine it.

I would ask when did everyone else give you the right to speak for them, but I didn't start this thread for it to become a flame war. I said what I said because it is what I feel and mean.

16. Well Said..
They have my vote, but I'm not going to put a single moment's effort into getting Obama/Biden elected. Obama lost credibility with me when he nominated the antithisis of everything that he stands for in the form of Joe Biden.

I don't think it'll make much difference where I live anyway. Obama/Biden's a lost cause here in Florida. McCain/Palin is going to win by a landslide here.

I think the Dems are really going to need every vote to keep the Rethugs from stealing another election. I feel like my vote, and every vote will help our country start to heal and people (like me) who depend on our government to help us when we get in desperate situations can know things can get better. It's kind of personal to me because of some unexpected things that have happened to me very recently.

This election got even more urgent today with the Palin VP pick. Thank you and every voter for supporting the Dem ticket. From the bottom of my heart.

21. Thank you for being a true patriot...
...and I really mean that in the best way possible, not in the asshole Hannity "you're a great American" bullshit way. I mean, we've all had disagreements with people on who's the best Dem, but we can ALL agree that this Sarah Palin is someone to be defeated, hands down, for the sake of our country and the world. We would be completely without allies in the world should this woman be thrust into the forefront to lead. And though I disagreed with Hillary in the primary on some things, I would totally, TOTALLY embrace her as Veep before Sarah Palin... I mean to compare the two isn't even like comparing apples and oranges. I can't even comprehend it and couldn't even make an apt comparison, that's how many miles apart they are in experience, judgement and just plain qualifications. Anything that happened in the primaries is small potatoes, miniscule, insignificant in the wake of THIS. Holy hell... Sarah Palin really puts it all into perspective if John McCain wasn't enough to do so. No way, no how. Thank you Hillary, because that should be our battle cry, and make no mistake, this is WAR now. I'm just stunned by this pick. It's almost like McCain HATES America, that's how awful and unqualified this woman is. :argh:

37. Welcome aboard, friend!
I know the primary season was so difficult on so many people, especially here at DU. There were a lot of bitter, angry, hurtful things thrown around, and it's a damned shame that it came to that. I'm just thankful that we all now have a cause to rally around - putting Barack Obama into the White House, and keeping John McShame and his new trophy veep out of power!

I'm hoping that time will heal all wounds for us, and that we can all stand together, united as one party, united in our victory on November 4.

Again, it's great to have you - and all the newest Obama-Biden supporters - aboard. I hope we can all someday overcome our doubts and hard feelings and move forward as one DU, one Democratic Party, one America.

I don't think he is a problem for a change ticket. We need more elected officials to "get it" and change to be more like Joe, imo.

The change is in direction, policy, and being proudly progressive.

45. The only offensive thing Obama did was win. But thank you for coming around to reason anyway.
I for one am incredibly weary of all the talk about horrible Obama supporters, because I can go point for point with anyone about the number of ridiculously horrible Clinton supporters there were here as well.

Neither side has any credibility trying to claim that "they" were especially victimized. It was NO different when both of them were neck and neck candidates. It would have been NO different if Clinton had been nominated, only the sides would have been reversed.

I'm tired of hearing about the especially victimized Clinton supporters. Even your "coming around" post was yet another opportunity to cry about the primaries. Sooner or later we have got to get past it. And getting past it doesn't just mean doing the patently obvious non-moronic thing and voting for the better of two candidates. It means truly letting it be.

But now I am excited about the election again.

I will donate money to the campaign.

The issues are too important for us to take any chances with this election.
