This has all the greasy fingerprints of Karl Rove all over it.

Repub strategists, including Rove, KNOW IT IS OVER.

McCain is being played by the BFEE.

Palin will become an embarrassing footnote in history.

Palin may withdraw before the election takes place.

2. My guess
He didn't want future potential, viable candidates to be hurt by McPOW. So they picked the one they cared about the least should she get hurt in the process politically. Not only is Palin a token but she's a fall guy too.

3. Yep, Palin was dumb enough to say yes... she is going down for sure.
I can't wait to hear the McCain Vetting Crew saying 'she never told us about all this'

9. They're counting on the economy being bad and hurting Obama's first term
Rove must realize that whoever gets elected will have an uphill battle, so might as well fold em now and blame the upcoming recession on Obama.

14. I have a completely different take ...
1) I think that Rove knew that Lieberman would have been a MAJOR problem at the convention, and that their convention would turn out in REALITY be the flaming disaster they TRIED to gin the D convention to be.

2) Rove did what he had to do to keep McCain from inflicting on the party the biggest, most unavoidably blatent embarrassment it has had in modern times.

3) I don't think he was in on the Palin pick. I think that he assumed it would be Pawlenty if not Palin - Pawlenty didn't get the no go call back until the night before.

4) I think that McCain went TOTALLY off the reservation with the Palin pick, cause he is that freakin stupid. I don't see Rove's fingerprints on it, I don't think that a good portion of McCain's inner circle knew it was going to break that way at the end.

4. Never underestimate.
I just posted about this in another forum.

Seems to me it is quite Rovian to know full well it is out there hoping the "just as Democrats and the liberal media do" they will run with it. Attack the poor child. Attack a woman based on her reproduction, motherhood, etc..... What kind of family values are those? Recovering the rhetoric of that issue to some extent again.
There is something else few understand. People have been participating in subtle agist and ablist bigotry toward McCain. This selection fits with that.
McCain scored some points for being the first president in history to take part in the disability presidential forum. Obama sent a surrogate. Obama didn't necessarily lose points and for many people who have disabilities he comes off as the better candidate. McCaine does have some of the right talking points, and people with disabilities mainly want to be represented and talked to and about with some civility. There is a national disability GOTV project happening. 34 million plus friends family and caretakers. I know it is not popular or sexy, but it is out there and happening. There is more to it than meets the eye. Never underestimate.

I think we should be careful here.

When things look too easy, they probably are for a reason.

5. Excellent point.
Some people will come to the aid of a mother being savaged by people because awwww, she's a MOM.

Seriously, FUCK Rove.

12. I don't see Dems attacking reproduction. MSM and the McCain camp are using it to manipulate votes.
Palin is willing playing the role and being held accountable. I have seen some Dems say some real shitty things, but majority of the shit is coming from MSM and McCain. The manipulation of votes through gender and reproductive organs is inexcusable.

16. Is it consistent?
I don't think it is consistent to question her choice even if there is some kind of bizarre story behind it when I expect mine not to be questioned.
Not only that what does this have to do with her ability to perform her job? I remember using that line when Clinton was being constantly investigated.

I fully agree that she needs to be held accountable based on her limited experience and her positions which are solidly right wing.

It makes no sense to me to try to score political points based on things that we have rejected in the past.

8. i think it's like this
I think it's pretty simple. They don't want to lose by 5. They want to win or lose by 15 points and blow up the party and start over, and hope Obama does a bad job, so they can regroup in a few years.

10. Rove knows it's over and McCain cannot win
Palin is just a bone thrown to the religiously insane to keep them in the fold after McCain goes down in flames.

15. I disagree. Rove is man that thrives on being now as the man that can get anyone elected.
He put this ticket together b/c he thinks it can deliver.
