The Freepers' delusions about Palin are absolutely stunning!
I'm in insomniac mode this morning, so I thought I would take a stroll over and see what our friends on Free Republic are saying about the strange choice of Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate.

My God! I have never read such a collection of crazy, delusional drivel in all my life, and I have visited FR before.

Every single poster, and I mean every poster, treats Palin's selection as the Long Promised Second Coming Of Our Holy Lord Jesus Christ Of Nazareth. She is suddenly their #1 hero, a towering conservative figure that has the "Dims" shaking and quaking in their boots. (This despite the fact that 48 hours ago nobody on that board, or this one, had ever heard of her.) Usually there are one or two sane "wait a minute, fellas" type posts when they go completely off the deep end over there. Not this time. Every post is crazy.

A particularly disturbing thread combines fulsome, cloying praise for the unknown Palin, raw naked hatred for Obama, and a discussion of which of the many guns they own is best for "taking care of business". One guy posted a huge color graphic showing dozens of guns right in the middle of this love-Palin, hate-Obama thread. (Good Lord. Who are these people? One of them whines that Democrats "aren't Americans". Right.)

If you want to wallow in some muck this morning for some reason, check out these deeply disturbed Palin threads:

1. We're not quaking in our boots... we're gearing up for WAR.
They should really get that straight. I'm not scared of her... I'm outraged at McCain's awful judgement and am willing to give this my all, even more so than before, to get Obama and Biden in office where they clearly belong and where McCain and his hockey mom do not.

6. Know thy enemy.
Nothing is lost if their site is accessed. And, it is extremely entertaining, if by "entertaining" you mean "my head was shaking slowly in disbelief the entire time I was there".

7. Good. There are, like, 83 of them, total.
They're like PUMA's. A statistically insignifacant but annoyingly vocal bunch.

The fact that only the Freepers and the fundie wingnuts like Michelle Malkin are applauding this choice proves how out of touch the Palin pick is.

Going for the base and ceding the independents to Obama. And they're going to lose the relatively-not-batshit-crazy mainstream conservatives very quickly... can you imagine the pressure, giving a speech in the Twin Cities in mere days, eyes of the world upon you? Only you haven't been doing this for a year like Obama and Clinton?

I enjoy reading this Freeper euphoria. It makes me smile. :-)

9. Good mental health demands that we first step into reality
I am having a good laugh and feel certain that Rove has now left the building. What was the McCain campaign thinking? And as far as that site, I won't go, but I would expect nothing less.

10. If nothing else, the Palin choice is "interesting".
In Bizzarro World it was "brilliant". In Real World it was irresponsible. But everyone is "interested"!

you lose IQ points every time you read that shit.

and that raw hatred for Obama; is just bigoted. Who in the fuck would not want to strive for all the things Obama talked about in his acceptance speech, other than those fuck wads? NO ONE.

We want a better world, for even those ass hats.

12. Like you, I took a little early morning stroll over there to check their reactions.
As you report, I could not find a single post that even remotely questioned her qualifications (or lack thereof) for the position of VP. As far as they are concerned she strikes the right chord on all of their hot button issues: Pro-life, pro-gun, creationism, drill in ANWAR, and the list goes on. One poster even opined that the only thing that could make her any better would be if she was home schooling her kids while on the campaign trail.

McCain has made his choice with the hope that he can energize the fundamentalist base of the party. It had nothing to do with choosing a qualified successor.

14. They think that Palin causes people to "shake in their boots"?
Funny, everyone here is laughing at her, baffled by McCain's choice, and thinking WTF? Nobody is remotely intimidated.
