You have to admit, the RW noise machine might not be smart, but they are good.
If the news would have been Ridge, or Pawlenty, or Lieberman, or Romney, it would not have blunted the steller Obama speech news. But they did it - they grabbed the talking heads MSM and created buzz for themselves - and as they've always shown, it is not always positive buzz....they get attention then twist to create the message they want.

I hate them, they are destructive, they may have sacrificed the election for the immediate...but they are good.

1. No

I don't have to admit that. Sacrificing the election for a news cycle is not smart, or good. And this selection is a catastrophe.

2. I'm sure not in the inner sanctum of political stragegy--

but have to think that some in Obama headquarters will say the same thing about Friday. When, that is, they write books next year.

3. They chose a tactical advantage and got a strategic nightmare
I won't admit they are good.

In fact, I'd call this perhaps the most boneheaded move in presidential political history and probably cost John McCain the election.

4. My point is that if you watched the news yesterday, looked at the papers this AM,
instead of Analysis of one of the historic speeches of our times, it was all Palin all the time. I don't respect them for it, it is destructive, it will not make them win, but they achieved what I suspect was their goal. So my point is that they are good at hijacking the newscycle when it should have been very difficult to do so. They are not patriots, they are self serving, they are destructive.....and I wish that they would just go away.

6. Sure did - of course they were all focused on Obama - the Palin news hadn't broken yet!
Here is perhaps my main point - we have to acknowledge and recongize how they operate and expect it. If I could take yesterday back for DU, we would have stayed focused on Obama....we play into their hands when we react to their boneheaded, transparently manipulative moves....oh well.

Let's back on message. So how is the Biden/Obama rust belt campaign swing going???

9. The point: Why complain about Saturday's papers, when Friday's had the big story?
And discussions on DU don't have to be thought of as "major media".

So start a thread, if you want a new topic.

7. Doesn't change a thing for Obama
Makes McCain look completely like a nut.

I'll take it.

10. The media (TV) will be very busy this weekend with producers ready to roll out
specials on Palin; her kids, especially their names, her life, her hunting/fishing, snowmobiling, moose stories. This will turn her into a new celebrity in a short time. 'Murcans love that kind of stuff. She will show up on every TV talk show, e.g, The View, Late Night, etc. Maybe they will overdo it.
