Politico: Palin pick shows McCain is Desperate

6 things the Palin pick says about McCain

Snip>

1. He’s desperate. Let’s stop pretending this race is as close as national polling suggests. The truth is McCain is essentially tied or trailing in every swing state that matters — and too close for comfort in several states like Indiana and Montana the GOP usually wins pretty easily in presidential races. On top of that, voters seem very inclined to elect Democrats in general this election — and very sick of the Bush years.

Snip> 5.

He’s worried about his conservative base. If he had room to maneuver, there were lots of people McCain could have selected who would have represented a break from Washington politics as usual. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman comes to mind (and it certainly came to McCain’s throughout the process). He had no such room. GOP stalwarts were furious over trial balloons about the possibility of choosing a supporter of abortion rights, including the possibility that he would reach out to his friend.

1. How bizarre is it . . .
that one GOP pick is used to both solidify the CONSERVATIVE base AND pull away HILLARY CLINTON supporters! What is this world coming to?!

3. Thats not true

Hillary supporters will not support McCain/Palin...

HRC supporters are pro-choice, pro-science, pro nat health care, etc...It's a joke to think these solid Democratic women are going to vote for someone like this SIMPLY because she's a she.

6. That is correct. the Palin pick is much more about McCain than it is about Palin......

7. From the polling on RCP
McCain's advantage in nearly every Red State is only about half of what Bush had in 2004. Obama's advantage in most of the Blue States is greater than Kerry's in 2004.

There are currently 17 states that RCP lists as "Leaning" or "Toss Up" and of those 17, most of them (11) were Red States in 2004 and with the exception of New Hampshire, Obama is doing MUCH better than Kerry did.

Note: Do not slack off just because the polls are good.

But the polls really are good, and McCain really is desperate.
