How could McCain pick someone like Palin to be VP? It some ways, she's just like Bush II: she seems to focus on a narrow range of issues; she mimics the the ideals of the culture warriors; and she has little curiosity about the world and how it works. Many commentators have tried to compare Palin's experience with Obama's: two years as governor versus four years as senator. Obama, though, has taken on a broad range of critical issues in foreign and domestic policy and made himself a leader in all of them like no other leader has done. His four years have been substantive. Indeed, he has shown that he can capture the attention of leaders around the world without beating them down with American preeminence. Palin, on the other hand, seems to be a governor in Incurious George's image. She sets a narrow agenda and remains aloof of the questions the nation at large faces. She has been more of an administrator than a leader. She is incurious to her core.
