Opposition Research--How Democrats Are Likely to Bungle This Year
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 09:46 AM by VogonGlory
I'm one of those mournful Democrats who remember too well how we lost the 2000 and 2004 elections in large part because we were too nice, too PC, and unwilling to do our homework. A bit of time and research can have some delightful results in the press and in the polls this year. But are we willing to do it? I fear that as usual, we aren't.

John McCain's selecting Sarah Palin instead of more capable, experienced Republican women like Elizabeth Dole or Kay Bailey Hutchison is a god-send. Palin is a far-right fly-weight whose political resume is only slightly more padded than George HW's and Barbara Mater's beamish boy's was back in 1999.

Surely SOMEONE took pictures of Sarah Palin way back when wearing a swimsuit and heels during her beauty pageant days. I just hope that Democrats want the White House badly enough THIS year to be willing to send prints to the tabloids, instead of letting our good manners help us once again deep-six our chances of winning this presidential election.

1. I don't think you have anything to worry about...
Biden will take her apart, politely of course...

And Obama has already shown in his speech that he's more than ready to be aggressive in this fight.

I think the two of them want this victory almost more than we do, if that's possible!

2. From your keyboard to G*d's monitor!
From your keyboard to G*d's monitor, but I'm still feeling my pain from 2000 and 2004. And I still fear that once again we Democrats will be too nice for our own good.

3. Well, I didn't get off of my butt and donate money last time, but
this time I've donated 5 times so far, and I'm doing as much volunteering as I can considering the situation I'm in with my husband in Iraq and me at home with 4 little kids. So, if everyone will just do a little bit on the ground and Obama and Biden keep it up, we can win.

5. The problem is, the RW owns the media
and thus controls the information and message. So in reality, when the Dems HAVE done a myriad of successful hits and retorts against the repukes (particularly in the state/local races), this fact is not being reported by the M$M. The congressional seat-pickups in the House (~33 seats) and Senate (~6 seats) in 2006, when the reported RW-owned M$M's expectations were ~20 House/3 Senate, did not happen because the Dems were too nice or PC. In essence, the RW-controlled media was fed and solely reported on assumptions based on Turdblossom's nonsense... I'm sure you recall the volley of arrogant retorts from Rove about "his math" ("the math"). :eyes:

During this entire election cycle, the RW and their media lackeys have manufactured a fake political universe that has been presented to the American public. The irony is that many of the RW have actually started believing and internalizing their own faux construct and have adapted their strategies based on that fake reality. Case in point, the assurance that there would be riots in the streets and fights on the floor at the DNC convention.

Boy did their best and brightest call that one correctly! I am truly impressed by their clairvoyance! :sarcasm:

In light of this fake universe, what may save us is making sure that we use resources such as the internet to pass on information about what is happening at the local/state levels, because the national press is only reporting what amounts to fake news in support of the virtual unreality that they created.

6. Sometimes Not
Sometimes the corporate press-titutes' innate greed and desire for money-raising sensationalism gets the better of their right-wing control. I suspect that if somebody turns up some nice pix of Sarah Palin in a swimsuit and heels from her beauty pagent days, those pix WILL find their way into the tabloids at supermarket checkout counters--not necessarily into the Globe (Which is particularly active as a right-wing propaganda organ), but into the National Enquirer, the Star, or the National Examiner.
