15. Not impressed. Someone needs to speak up about the "emperor's new clothes" re: Palin. |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 12:23 PM by calmblueocean
After McCain's radical choice for VP -- someone the public doesn't know; someone without the kind of history of accomplishment in her past that Obama, Biden, and even McCain have; a woman who less than two years ago was the mayor of a tiny town; a far right Christian we have only 60-odd days to investigate before she could become president -- just tagging McCain as "more of the same" really doesn't cut it anymore.
McCain has now shown himself to be a major hypocrite and someone who does not take the security of the United States seriously.
Why are they pretending this is not the case? Just because they're afraid of offending women?
Palin is a disaster waiting to happen. I'm sure she's a great Mom and I wish her the best, but being president is the hardest job in the world, and from what I've seen, she doesn't have the resume, experience or bearing it requires. We need to stop pretending that she's an a-okay choice and acknowledge that this was simply McCain rolling the dice of America's future.

once she actually has to start speaking about policy outside of Alaska's needs (that the only frame she gets at all). There will millions of viewers with their jaws dropped.

28. Everything you are saying... |
|
...is so blatantly obvious, it doesn't need to be said. At least not by Obama. They can no longer refer to him as "not ready" or "inexperienced" that's a big advantage. He doesn't need to get into any argument saying...she's just as inexperienced as I am. Is the McCain ticket the one that we can count on to protect us from the terrorist and nuclear threats?
People get it. Those who don't were never going to be on our side anyway.

30. After 2004, I just don't take anything "obvious" for granted anymore. |
|
To me, the Swiftboat attacks were obviously phony, ginned up, political garbage, meant to disparage John Kerry's true heroism in service to the country, and yet... in the end, they worked. There is a certain class of people in this country who are not tuned in to politics and believe what is told them. And they vote.
I probably wouldn't do an all-out frontal attack on Palin so much as re-jigger some of my ads to focus on how Obama-Biden is "the safe choice", the choice you know you can trust. It's only been a day, so I can't say definitively where I'd go from there, but what I wouldn't do is pretend that Palin is in the same class as Hillary, or Biden, or even people like Carly Fiorina, or Meg Whitman, or Kay Baily Hutchinson. I'd definitely point out that the majority of her political experience is as mayor of a tiny little Alaska village, and that two years ago, that's where she was. At least cement the details of her incompetency into the public's mind. Because people only know what you tell them. Nothing is obvious these days.

and sit back and do nothing while she builds up name recognition and a hero status. Wonderful tactic.

31. My thoughts exactly. What you are silent about, people assume you are fine with. |
|
People only know what you tell them, and Obama is letting McCain tell the story of Palin instead of shaping it himself.

32. Lets hope they do begin to define her...it should come but coming too soon will... |
|
make it look like he is attacking her because she is a woman...i think thr aura of a woman needs to die down and then the attacks begin...being too early on it might back fire

34. will people ever believe McCain thinks she's the best person for the job? |
|
I think as time goes on the choice will be seen as more and more odd. People will begin to ask themselves, why exactly did he pick her?
No amount of "defining" her is going to make this decision make sense.
