Brilliant feminist perspective on Palin

A Feminist Appalled by Palin

...snip...

This last-ditch attempt by the McCain campaign to re-brand its image is in reality, a capitulation to the far right. It assumes that women don't realize the extremism of the Republican platform this year, which opposes abortion even in the cases of rape and incest, and all stem-cell research. In recent weeks, it's been clear that the Republicans are not that into contraception either, contraception, which almost the entire country has used or will use at some point. This is something feminists have been saying for years. The anti-choice movement is not about saving unborn children, but rather about controlling women's sexuality, and subjecting women to second-class citizen status.

It's no rare thing for the right wing to use prominent women to keep the rest of us down. But just because Sarah Palin is a woman doesn't mean she's good for women. And female voters know that.

=======================

I have 2 young daughters that I have every hope in the world for their continued freedom and equality. It will be a great tragedy to elect McCain and Palin for the very reasons detailed in the linked article. I can't shake this inner rage that has filled me for the past 24 hours at the prospect of having fundamentalist backwords thinking being further promoted in this country after what a disaster George Bush proved to be.

1. Thanks for this post
I've been so sad since this Palin pick occurred. Sad and angry and I just can't get the words out cohesively.

2. Thanks for posting this!
We all need to be screaming from the rooftops about what electing this ticket will mean for American women! On the anniversary of the struggle for women to get the right to vote, we need to remind others what we are set to lose. Write your local paper & tell everyone you know the REAL agenda of the right!

3. good post - the RW has used women very effectively
to get their message out - Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham. Somehow, the bile they spew seems a little more tolerable because it comes from a woman.

4. I see some parallels here
to Alan Keyes, a self-hating black man,
to the Log Cabin Republicans, who vote against their self-interest,
and now a woman who hates women's rights.

In all three cases, the figureheads are symbols of the opposite of their policies. They do not stand up to scrutiny. They hope the voters won't notice.

5. Awesome

The best person to advance anti-women legislation is a women

Just wait until the Republicans try to do away with affirmative action and housing discrimination laws...they'll do it with a black Conservative.

6. I am a quasi-radical feminist who never supported Hillary Clinton, but
In the last 24 hours, especially since Palin's "18 million cracks" crack, I have felt differently. I have also gone from being a probable Obama voter to intending to go out and actively campaign for him.

Good job rallying the Democratic base, old man.

7. From comments at Huffington post...
Palin is to women what Clarence Thomas is to African-Americans.

I think it hits the nail on the head!
