She is a rightwing fundamentalist and will bring in their money and support... and a woman....
Let's get them on the issues (as much as I like Geezer and Gidget) we have to wake America up to her stands... far far far FAR RIGHT. Her abuses of power in Alaska and leaving her town in debt. To say nothing of the Supreme Court choices she (and friends) will make and McShame will love... Overturning Roe v. Wade and perhaps teaching Creationist Christian bible instead of evolution.

It really emphasizes the bait and switch. Says, the GOP: We're going to put a female face on the Republican party to make it look like we support change....when knowing full well not a bloody thing is going to change other than the gender of the VP.

28. As a feminist, I say.. that when they chose for being a female, then it's fair game.
if she wants to be used as a token female, then i have no problem with those cartoons. If she had mofo credentials, or hell.. even scant credentials, to be VP, then I'd scream sexism. But her only qualification for this pick was her anatomy.

49. You've got it upside down
It is jokes about _them_ being sexist, in so far as the cartoonist believes she was not chosen for solid political or experience reason. But as a token. So they move it to the extreme to point it out.

They are not ridiculing her for being a woman, but for being picked because of it. That you can then disagree with, of course.

If someone had picked a runningmate of colour purely for that reason, it would be just as fair game to make a cartoon about that.

No way such cartoons would have been made. But ridiculing a women for being a women is okay. That's a double standard.

51. They are not ridiculing her. They are not ridiculing her for being a woman either.
They are ridiculing the decision for picking her.

And I did not say that cartoons would be made in the other, theoretical instance. I just said it would be ok. From my point of view.
As long as the point was not ridiculing the concept of being a person of colour, but ridiculing a deliberate decision to pick someone mainly for reasons that can only be attributed to genetical dispositions established at conception.

78. As with racism, pointing out sexism can sometimes comes across as sexism.
What's more sexist than advancing the younger, prettier, non-threatening woman with the nice smile ahead of much more qualified and accomplished women like KBH and Condi Rice? We may all hate Condi for her politics, but as a former National Security Advisor and sitting Secretary of State, she has more foreign policy experience in one eyelash than Sarah Palin has in her entire body. Vice President would seem to be the next natural step for her, as opposed to the first term governor of a state with less than 700,000 people whose major qualification is seemingly her lack of qualifications.

is that by choosing a "trophy VP", McCain has reopened the door for the blatantly sexist reactions such as these. Of course, the video of him gazing at her butt while twisting his wedding ring didn't help, either.
