Here's one I didn't know about PALIN
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 12:40 PM by maseman
This just came from Moveon.org.

How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7

Are you f-ing kidding me?

On edit -

Makes "Heckofa good job Brownie" seem lame compared to this...

1. That is why we can believe that it wasn't his choice
Karl told him who he had to announce like it or not.

I just have not figured out what the Rove motive is. Several theories have been mentioned here but none sound like Rove, yet.

3. Hello! You cut my hair once and your boyfriend works for the post office
Would you like to be my vice president?

Thanks,

John McCain

10. Well it certainly was a great PR stunt
and pulled attention away from the amazing Democratic convention. The only problem is what now? How do they sustain that bump in the news cycle?

13. Bump?
Only a bump in attention, not in the polls. IMO. It may have diverted attention, but in a bad way. It seams that most people understand what a colossal blunder this is.

14. Oh yes, I meant in the news cycle only
It did suck some attention away from the amazing last night of the Democratic convention, but I'm not sure that was a good way to do it. They got the attention, but they're stuck with her. From what we know of her so far, I think they will have regrets before long.

2. I don't think McCain has much at all to do with his campaign. He just shows up
at whatever venue is booked for him, and that's about the extent of his involvement -

5. I heard that last night on CNN...
James Carville was grilling some repub about this.
She did NOT want to talk about it. but it was confirmed later.

so, our team established a commitee to meet with, interview and vet possible VP picks. Obama took time off to consider and decide....While McLame met this woman ONCE and called her up six months later to discuss the job???

c'mon...clear evidence that his administration would be a sham like the present one.

6. So whose choice was she? Is it possible that the Repubs are planning
to nominate someone else at the Convention? Will McCain's dementia become an issue?

I mean, who could have possibly thought that this woman wouldn't get creamed for her
inexperience and questionable background?

7. Here is another: Cheney-Stevens-Palin pipeline to infamy?
"her plan for a natural gas pipeline that could one day be the most expensive construction project in North America. .... "

Same pipeline project, right?

....
Gov. Sarah Palin, was in Juneau requesting more money for the state budget and assuring legislators they'd soon see her plan for a natural gas pipeline that could one day be the most expensive construction project in North America. ....

Palin was making between $100,000 and $120,000 a year before he went on leave in December to make more time for his family and avoid potential conflicts of interest. London-based BP is heavily involved in the gas pipeline negotiations with his wife's administration.

Palin's advocacy dovetails neatly with his wife's No. 1 priority: forging a construction contract with private companies to transport natural gas from the North Slope to the Lower 48. ....

8. John McCain didn't take this decision seriously
In fact, he's not very serious about many decisions.
Uninformed, impulsive, and that's the way he likes it.
John McCain is proven.. proven to be unfit to lead.

11. ABC: Palin wasn't in the running until this week
From ABC's news blog Political Radar:
It wasn't until Sunday night that John McCain, after meeting with his four top advisers, finally decided he could not tap independent Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut to be his running mate. One adviser, tasked with taking the temperature of the conservative base, had strongly made the case to McCain that it would be a disaster for the party and that the base would revolt. McCain concluded he could not go that route.

The next day, McCain studied the three men at the top of his shortlist: Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge. All had different strengths and negatives, but McCain was not satisfied. . . .

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's name was in the mix as an unconventional choice for months, but she had not been considered a front-runner. So, over the next few days, with McCain continuing to believe he needed someone who had more of a maverick streak than his other choices, lawyers reviewed her vetting information. They kept their activities from even some in McCain's most senior inner circle.
. . .

16. That seems unlikely. It's a natural stepping stone to the being the 2012 nominee.
Romney wanted it baaad. Pawlenty made all the typical noises about 'I would be honored, McCain will pick the best qualified". I think he wanted it too.
