Sarah Palin opposes birth control pills and condoms even among married couples?
Worst Pick Ever?
This guest post is offered by pollster Del Ali, the president of Research 2000.

Sarah Palin will wow cultural conservatives in areas where they may not have come out to vote before the selection. This is right out of Karl Rove's strategy of getting more of your own to show up and vote.

However, in many of the swing states that Bush carried in 2004, there were anti gay ballot measures to motivate the cultural conservatives to vote. There are very few of these measures on the ballots in those key states in 2008. Palin may not be enough for them to get out and vote. Clearly Rove felt in 2004 that Bush would not have been enough, thus the ballot measures.

In fact, as Palin's cultural views become better known -- she oppose abortion in all cases and opposes the use of birth control pills and condoms even among married couples -- she will undoubtedly scare the hell out of the soccer moms and 98% of Hillary voters. In fact, many of these women may feel insulted by this choice in that McCain and the GOP think they are stupid and would bypass their own interest (reproductive and economic) to vote for the ticket due to gender and anger that Hillary was not the nominee.

In my estimation as a pollster and analyst, while historic for the GOP in selecting their first woman on a national ticket, this choice may be the worst selection by a major party nominee for President in modern times.

22. Read the following "manifesto" from the "feminist" group she belongs to...
I posted it earlier in response to the MSM calling her a freaking FEMINIST...

**It also appears that Sarah Palin is a member of a misnamed group called Feminists for Life. FFL in fact engages in "cultural appropriation" of women's suffrage icons to promote a very woman-unfriendly agenda that--despite attempts to sound "not like those crazies in Operation Rescue"--would not only criminalise abortion but the IUD and hormonal birth control methods, and potentially everything outside the rhythm method (the term "abortifacient birth control" is a codephrase in the dominionist "pro-life" community for hormonal birth control--partly due to a unique urban legend claiming "the pill" and other hormonal birth control causes abortion and partly because of a unique definition of pregnancy beginning at conception rather than at implantation (the latter is what most mainstream OB/GYNs use) and thus making anything preventing implantation potentially "abortifacient").

FFL promotes such fun bogosities as "post-abortion syndrome" (the idea that having an abortion will inevitably lead to PTSD and insanity), and promotes mandatory waiting periods and misinformation guidelines that can be insurmountable for poor or rural women--even those forced to make the most heartbreaking choice because of a nonviable pregnancy. In fact, one of their biggest causes isn't feminist at all--they actively promote the idea that the best choice for women is to stay home as fulltime mothers, and it can be well argued that the only traditionally feminist viewpoint they really support is women's suffrage!

One of the big things FFL promotes is deceptive "pregnancy counseling centers"--where pregnant teens are forced to essentially listen to an altar call on how "abortionists want to murder their children" whilst a pee-stick test clears--and if she tests "yes", she gets a hard-sell to keep the child or to check herself into a dominionist-run "halfway house for teenage moms" where she will ultimately be forced to sign her kid over. (Yes, there is an entire private adoption industry in the dominionist community--mostly focusing on adopting out the infants of poor teenage mothers who have been forced to give their kids up and who have been either scared into it or checked into such facilities by their parents.)

Ironically, FFL itself is rather a "stealth" organisation in and of itself--yes, even the dominionists admit this. Interestingly, despite their claims of being more "moderate" than most anti-abortion groups, very few real solutions are offered on how they intend to fund such things (which can be boiled down to "CHOOSE TO BREED").**

18. I can understand that some believe it is ending a life and
that is something they can't accept. I don't happen to share their views, but I do understand them. The problem seems to come when they can't accept my view that abortion should be safe and legal and up to the woman.

28. Understand may not be the best word for the context
Just a way to say that you realize that there are politicians with that point of view. Her opposition to birth control is just dumbfounding and extreme. What else should one expect from a Buchanan Republican.

Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 01:46 PM by Jakes Progress
How does she feel about he ticket partner's affair and subsequent dumping of a wife to "trade up".

We will see how honest the cultural conservatives are. The always seem eager to talk one way for publication and then act for their own gratification and advancement regardless of how it contrasts with their "beliefs".

I think the nomination was about money and getting out the religious nut vote. Money from the churches and pulpit-delivered voting instructions the same as george got.

21. K&R
The more I read about this woman the crazier she becomes. Is this the Republican Party's answer to the last eight miserable years of incompetent fanatics running our government?

I refuse to believe the vast majority of the American people would vote for any ticket with a lunatic such as Palin on it. It is up to us to make sure America knows exactly how much of a complete fundie radical this woman is, and also that this is the type of appointment McCain will make throughout his administration and to THE SUPREME COURT.

I thought McCain would be four more years but it is becoming glaringly obvious that a McCain administration would be far WORSE than just four more years.

23. This woman is pretty damn nutty, on top of all of this nuttiness she
was a die hard supporter of the nazi apologist and anti semite Pat Buchanon. She supported Pat in 96 and in 2000 over Dole and Bush? I wonder what do the jews in S. Florida think about that. If we push this we, may be able to take Florida this year.

24. I hope the MSM asks her about this. They portray her as Saint Sarah because she
was allowed to make her own personal decision to carry a baby to term that has a disability, but she thinks it's OK to force women to become baby making machines against their will? What is WRONG with these nuts? Do they want the human race to populate/ pollute itself to death?

25. Her positions don't make sense to me
She opposes abortion but she also opposes birth control which would make abortions less likely to occur.

She's an avid hunter, but she doesn't believe in protecting and preserving wildlife, including polar bears.

She claims to be against excessive government spending, yet she cut property taxes 60% while she was mayor and supposedly drove her city into debt.

These facts should be trumpeted from the rooftops. Centrists male and female alike will run screaming away from the Repukes.

Dude, I'm all willing to be okay with her five kids ... but she better not be telling me I can't stop at my one and only.

Good lord! What a horrendous pick. Really, she's supposed to appeal to Hillary voters?

This, coupled with her stances on gay marriage, creationism and shooting wolves from helicopters -- well, it makes one sick.
