4. Same here.
No contest. As someone mentioned yesterday...up until this week, the election was a referendum on Obama. Now questions are being asked about McCain's aptitude and judgement. That's totally apart from the overall shittiness of Palin as a VP.

6. I thought picking Romney would be a bad choice for McCain.
Given their combined house/financial wealth, etc., but at least Mittens has *some* experience -- governor of MA is better than governor of AK, plus his work in the private sector.

When McCain picked Palin, I refreshed the page, thinking I was reading The Onion.

2. Way waaaaaaaaaaaaay better.
McCain's "use" of this woman was all the fodder I needed to kick ass in Obama's campaign office for the next 8 weeks.

I think McCain is crazy.
His recklessness is breathtaking. If I were a Republican I would be STEAMED.

15. I'm with you...
I've been posting that I think she'll withdraw by Tuesday. But what would be REALLY cool is if she withdrew NEXT Tuesday. After the convention, when McCain would have to just pick somebody without the benefit of the nominating process. A complete basket case of a campaign. That would be cool.

but after realizing who Palin actually was, I don't think she has much of a chance. She WILL be destroyed. :D

18. I was petrified
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 03:07 PM by Abacus
But in the past 24 hours, I've learned about troopergate, dairygate, cancer-bitchgate, planegate, a handful of years as mayor of a town of 8500 and a year and a half governership, professed ignorance of the job description of the job she's applying for, and an Assembly of God association.

Edit: altered title to stick with lyrics.

a more qualified running mate.

14. I think the damage has already been done.
As it has been said here before, the first kind of executive choice McCain would make is the selection of a running mate. And well, here it is. This directly speaks to McCain's judgement.

10. Obama will do better, but the smears will get uglier
as soon as McCain goes nuclear with the attacks that Obama & Biden are sexist, they'll really try to ratchet up the women vote that way... and of course abortion attack will get cranked up to a whole new level once they bring Palin's children into it, specially the youngest child. Ugh, expect to see it all by next weekend.

17. Never overestimate the intelligence of the American voter
The Repugs are masters at making voters vote on wedge issues such as abortion, gay marriage and guns rather than the things that really affect their lives. If Bush was reelected in 2004 I have no faith in the American voter not to be manipulated by a pretty smile, a tearjerker of a story about her Downs Syndrome baby, the right to hunt, and the threat of gays. Don't kid yourself, it can happen.

21. McCain seemed to be gaining with the "Inexperience"
argument against Obama and then decides to throw that argument out the window with the selection of Sarah Palin as his VP choice.

The Obama Team is too much of a well oiled machine to be "giving away" any argument.

This pick by McCain is election suicide.

23. Same because the VP pick doesn't mean much
But I wish McCain had picked an irrelevant guy.

Sarah Palin is going to become very popular during the campaign. I watched every Alaska debate on CSPAN in 2006. She has a very effective relaxed style with plenty of smiles and charm. That translated to wildly surpassing her primary polling numbers, and also easily eclipsing her late poll numbers in the general election vs. Tony Knowles. Then she had roughly a 90% approval rating at one point this year.

You've got to be dense to ignore all that evidence of winning support. There was a reason McCain picked her and it wasn't masochism. It's a cynical choice designed to challenge fence sitting women not to vote for a ticket featuring a woman.

gets on the campaign trail, it will be evident how nervous Palin is on the big stage. I don't know how much scrutiny she receives in Alaska. It appears she is still in the honeymoon phase of the governorship.

some sort of dirty work, or smoke and mirrors tricks has to be afoot.
