Full R friend of mine- TURNED! Thank you McCain, for choosing Palin (story inside)
Because of who McCain chose as VP, my friend is frothing at the mouth. She called me and asked me (We've been avoiding politics, it's one reason we're still friends) "Did you hear who McCain chose?" I replied..."Sure, Palin from AK."

Then the rant began-

Some of the things she said

"If he wanted a woman there were alot more qualified he could have taken!"
"She makes a MOCKERY of women who work hard everywhere."
"Who the HELL does she think she is...THANKING HRC with that sneer?" (She doesn't like HRC at all, but respected how far she came in these historic primaries)
"What kind of mother is she...to do this with a four month old baby??" (She has 4 kiddos like me, and is extremely protective.)
"Alaska...ALASKA!? They are like another country there...she has NO CLUE about what we have to go through!" (Had to bite my tongue there, I'm born and bred sourdough- I just live in NC)
"^$#&^#...McCain could keel over any time, and he wants a Victoria Secrets wannabe to fill the presidents shoes?"

There was alot more, but those are the memorable ones.

After I calmed her down, she goes with a sigh "Ok girl, tell me about Obama."

So I did, and she made this one last statement before we hung up. "You sold me on what you've told me, Obama has my vote. I'll go read up on him so I can keep this disaster out of the whitehouse."

Keep in mind, she is very pro-military. She doesn't believe in abortion for birth control, but does believe that it is desperately needed in rapes- Incest- and births that endanger the mother. She doesn't believe in "marraige" for LBGT communities, but does believe they deserve the right to see their loved ones in the hospital and to be able to share assets. To quote her- "Business partners share assets, why can't they?" I poked and prodded her on her beliefs when I was talking about Obama and said "Do you really want to be like most of the others that vote R and vote on a single issue? Look at the big picture."

She agreed, and now she's devoting herself to selling Obama to HER R friends.

Talk about a domino effect...I love it!
:woohoo:

6. Heh I know-

I miss it ALOT. We moved down here to be near hubby's family. I'm a transplant (sigh) and with all the photos recently I've gotten more than a little homesick.

I just remind myself what the fargin cost of living is up there, and look around at what we have here to be ok though :)

22. A few items of interest on the cost of living
Chieftains in some of the villages figure it will cost $2100 a MONTH to heat houses
milk and gas in Barrow is over eight dollars.

Down here, put two bucks on everything. I live on the Kenai and have road access to the cities. Most of the villages in the state are off road and you fly or boat in. In the winter, when things freeze, you can snow machine or dog sled over frozen rivers as highways.

Dean (God bless him) has people going to the bush to knock on doors. That will be tremendous for people to feel included.

Most of the villages, if not all have no plumbing and some are only recently getting good electricity and I can remember when they got good phones and the internet. What people do is put their sewage in a poo lagoon near the town. Hepatitis and TB are epidemic up here.

We have a lot of people who work harder than mules to just live. I love this place. I admire her people, even if some of them are oddballs. They have my respect. Most of the time. ;)

11. She might appreciate this particular paragraph from Obama's speech:
Might be worth e-mailing her this:

"We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country. The reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than for those plagued by gang-violence in Cleveland, but don't tell me we can't uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals. I know there are differences on same-sex marriage, but surely we can agree that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters deserve to visit the person they love in the hospital and to live lives free of discrimination. Passions fly on immigration, but I don't know anyone who benefits when a mother is separated from her infant child or an employer undercuts American wages by hiring illegal workers. This too is part of America's promise -- the promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort."

Thanks for the story. Love these anecdotes. :hi:

20. She's 'very pro military' give her this link to study:
You listed that one first so I am assuming that our military is close to the top of her list.
Here is the link to Barack Obama's official web page on defense. Your friend should find plenty here to fire up her own enthusiasm for Barrack Obama:

25. She's pro=military? Send her the following--
http://www.alternet.org/democracy/95776/

According to an analysis of campaign contributions by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, Democrat Barack Obama has received nearly six times as much money from troops deployed overseas at the time of their contributions than has Republican John McCain, and the fiercely anti-war Ron Paul, though he suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination months ago, has received more than four times McCain's haul.

Despite McCain's status as a decorated veteran and a historically Republican bent among the military, members of the armed services overall -- whether stationed overseas or at home -- are also favoring Obama with their campaign contributions in 2008, by a $55,000 margin. Although 59 percent of federal contributions by military personnel has gone to Republicans this cycle, of money from the military to the presumed presidential nominees, 57 percent has gone to Obama.
