Troopergate is scandal enough.
If there's any fire to all the smoke about the baby, then better believe the National Enquirer will find it. And as much as I hate to say it, after breaking the John Edwards story, the darn rag has some cred.

In the meantime, TrooperGate is an actual fact ongoing investigation into abuse of power. And as mayor of Wasilla, Palin apparently fired the city's police chief and the library director, "accusing them of not fully supporting her efforts to govern." These are documented stories from Alaskan newspapers.

And the point about TrooperGate is NOT that she tried to fire her brother in law (who may or may not be a dirtbag) but that she fired a popular Public Safety Commissioner who basically said he wasn't going to break the law for a family feud.

I truly believe what will resonate RIGHT NOW with voters are these real and documented stories, in addition to she's absolutely not qualified, McCain doesn't even know her, she was picked only because the religious right (the Republican ground game foot soldiers) were unhappy and staying home.

I am NOT suggesting that the baby story isn't important, because IF IT IS TRUE, it is incredibly important on many, many levels. And the minute the National Enquirer prints something, I'll be all over it (OMG, did I actually type those words???) Or other semi-credible source.

Until that happens, though, I'm not going to spend another second on a rumor when I have so much other ammo at my fingertips. I understand others may have a different view. This is mine.

1. You can fire someone for "not supporting your efforts to govern"?

In other words, you didn't like them, or they disagreed with you--so you fired them. She's a fucking nutjob.

2. Apparantly yes.
Here's a link to one of several newspaper articles on the subject...

3. I agree with you
If the story has legs then let the rags handle it as only they can. This is so sensational that you know they must be on it as we type.

I don't think it's wrong to bring it up here. But if it takes up the majority of threads we risk a Dan Rather mud pie in the face. And she will get all the sympathy. Mark my words. So I'm trying to stay away from discussing the details.

The trooper-gate story is the one where we can take the high road. The facts have been substantiated and she's under investigation, right? That's our moose meat and potatoes.

4. Absolutely. And the Wasilla story is something that Anchorage Daily News thinks is important
because they just reprinted the following story from 1997:

Wasilla keeps librarian, but police chief is out (2/1/1997)

Editor's note: This story was originally on February 1, 1997

City librarian Mary Ellen Emmons will stay, but Police Chief Irl Stambaugh is on his own, Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin announced Friday. The decision came one day after letters signed by Palin were dropped on Stambaugh's and Emmon's desks, telling them their jobs were over as of Feb. 13.

The mayor told them she appreciated their service but felt it was time for a change. ''I do not feel I have your full support in my efforts to govern the city of Wasilla. Therefore I intend to terminate your employment ...'' the letter said.

Palin said Friday she now feels Emmons supports her but does not feel the same about Stambaugh. As to what prompted the change, Palin said she now has Emmons' assurance that she is behind her. She refused to give details about how Stambaugh has not supported her, saying only that ''You know in your heart when someone is supportive of you.''

The three met briefly at Wasilla City Hall Friday afternoon, and Palin called them twice at Stambaugh's home before making the decision.

Palin said she asked Emmons if she would support efforts to merge the library and museum operations. Emmons said she would, according to Palin.

Her conversation with Stambaugh was short, both said. He asked: ''What's the basis for this?'' and she gave no details.

Can we say, NOT VETTED??!!
