Let's play a little game
Let's play a little game here... Imagine you are hiring someone to run your multinational business. You have your life savings invested in it, so you want to make sure you hire the best candidate-- after all, your retirement and your children's inheritance are on the line. Your company deals with people and governments, both within the US and around the world and needs someone who can deal with those groups and generate as much business as possible while trying not to create ill-will that will lead to lost sales. You've narrowed the field down to two possibilities:
The first graduated from two of the most prestigious schools in the country, Columbia University and Harvard Law School, was the President of the Harvard Law Review, and graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude. With his credentials, he easily could have gotten a six-figure job as a lawyer, but instead he took a job that paid $10,000 a year working as a community organizer, managing a paid and volunteer staff of over 700. He was elected to the Illinois state Senate and served one full term and part of a second, when he was elected to the US Senate. He worked for twelve years teaching constitutional law at the prestigious University of Chicago School of Law. He has traveled and lived abroad in countries such as Kenya, England and Bali, has traveled extensively inside the US, and has authored two bestselling autobiographical books (his first was a bestseller before he became well known as a politician).
The second candidate has a Bachelors degree from the University of Idaho in journalism with a minor in political science. Worked briefly as a sports reporter, and worked as a commercial fisherman. Four years on the town council of a town of 5500, followed by six years as Mayor of that same town, then 1.5 years as governor of the 3rd smallest state in the country. She is currently under investigation for possibly illegally firing a subordinate.
Now seriously, Given the choice of those two resumes, can you honestly say that you feel the second one is the more qualified of the two? Can you even honestly say that they are close? Executive experience is great, but it is not remotely the only thing that matters. You may not like Obama for his position on the issues, but if you judge him objectively, it is impossible not to conclude that he's FAR more qualified for the job than Palin.
