"Kerry will attack in September"- you'd better be right! |
|
I'm not saying Kerry isn't running a good campaign, I think he's doing rather well. I mean, 1 year ago who would have thought we'd be even *close* to Bush (and we've been ahead in some polls, even). Now we are. Remember last year, with Bush supporters running all about in a joyful haze after their golden boy had just "defeated terrorism" in Iraq? Those days are gone. Gone, gone, gone.
However, I'm waiting for Kerry to bust it open. Yeah, it's probably better that he's doing it now instead of earlier, because now there will be less time for Bush to patheticly try to defend himself. But I really hope this is the time.
Some of you here have built up my hopes... I don't want to be disappointed!

I saw it yester-night.
Even Chris gets it (or he was just catering to the audience).

4. just check the score card |

In 2000 Gore beat Bush by popular vote. Since then;
Millions have lost their job. Millions have lost their health insurance. The millions who have heath insurance have seen that cost skyrocket with no end in sight. The families of National Guard and Reservists have been torn apart to fight a poorly planned war based on lies. Senior citizens have been turned into criminals for trying to save some money on their prescriptions. Millions have been ripped off paying their energy bills while Enron employees laughed about sticking it up grandmothers asses. Millions of people who suffer from terrible diseases have been told the government will not allow research to cure them.
Now, on election day, when the weight of all these things hovers above the voting booth, do you think Bush will do better than 2000?

The single largest difference in this election is the feeling of FEAR that was created by 9/11.
As one great Democrat said: "The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself."

8. Fears that are in play |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 10:29 PM by xray s
Terrorist attacks. You kids being drafted. Your loved one in the military being killed or injured. Losing your job. Losing your pension. Losing your health insurance. Dying from a disease that could be prevented if research is allowed to go forward. Not being able to afford your prescription drugs. Losing all your life savings if you get seriously ill.
Who will convince us that they have a plan to solve the problems that cause our fear?
My money is on Kerry.

5. Let's closely examine *'s job approval over the past year, shall we? |
|
If we look only at Gallup, he's gone from 59% one year ago to 49% today. Better yet, lets' look at the WSJ right track/wrong track #'s. One year ago, 38% said the country was on the right track, today it's 36%. Also from the most recent WSJ poll, 33% of respondents had a "very positive" view of *. Wow. 33%!

7. In a way waiting until Sept to attack might be smart |
|
By this time next week, we will be into the first full week in Sept, with 60 or so days to go. The Repug confab will be over and thus the media focus will seeking something else (the SB crap will be old hat by then) to hone in on.
If Kerry can step up his attacks on * and his policies, sharpen his message with rapier arguments against both *'s record and the proposals * has made at the RNC, then he should be able to command a lot of media attention.
In the meanwhile, PACs and other supportive groups can gnaw away at *'s underpinnings (i.e. National Guard Service, venality in office such as Haliburton, and other such side issues) then * will be caught in a pincer in which he is spending time, energy, and money fighting.
The key is not how the attack is made, it is also to a large degree, WHEN it is made. Too soon and you peak too early. Too late and we all suffer 4 more years of * and his cabal.
Just my .02, flame away.

11. I'm just concerned that it won't happen. |
|
People here talk about lot's of moves that never end up happening.
I really want this to happen, because I'm in agreement with you that this is a great time to land some big punches. But if it doesn't happen, then what?

13. If it doesn't happen ......2 options |
|
Option 1:
We hope and pray like hell that the dissatisfaction with *'s first term is enough to swing the undecideds to Kerry on Nov 2.
Option 2:
We hope and pray to survive the *'s second term and start arguing over who can take it on 2008.

14. I predict the serious swinging will begin on September 11th or 12th |
|
Partly because of 9/11 -- remember, if the trends are accurate, that's when the 1000th U.S. soldier will die in Iraq :( -- but mostly because it will have been 9-10 days after Bush's acceptance, which should be right around the time his post-RNC bounce in the polls would peak. After that, with any luck, the momentum will start to shift back towards Kerry, and his attacks will be that much more effective in the media.
That's just my prediction, though. I also predicted five years ago that I would be a Libertarian for the rest of my life. :silly:

I think Kerry has actually laid the ground work for framing the debate for the rest of the campaign.
Analogy: WWII Normandy invasion - D-day. The allies (Kerry) objective is to defeat Bush. The strategy is to open a "eastern front" against Bush. The tactic is to feint an "attack" (comparing military experience)and do an amphibious landing (attack on economy, jobs, poverty, etc.) As history showed the strategy was victorious.
Let Bush talk about terror and Iraq (two miserable failures). Tap him on his shoulder from behind and pop him right square in the nose!

|
In some of the rallies he has and on the Daily Show he's discussing Bush's flip flops. I imagine after the convention we're going to hear a lot about them.

20. yup, that was the gist of Clark's speech |
|
at the Kerry rally in Tacoma.
I like how Kerry really IS decisive, he just has the courage and humility to take in new information and reassess the situation.
Bush is a stubborn old fool who can't decide what to do until Cheney tells him. And he really says one thing and does the opposite. If you remember the tenets of his 2000 campaign, you would laugh hysterically.

16. The Debates will tell |
|
I really think Kerry needs to chew Bush up and spit him out - humiliate him and leave him looking like a fool. That sounds more crass than I'd like to think I feel toward a political opponent, but he just desparately needs to be shown up for what he is - 48% of the people don't seem to get it; they'll forgive or overlook anything. He needs to be humiliated in a way that leaves no dispute and that no one can miss.
